Before arenas become available to you in the story, you can farm bosses who are on gates/thrones that must be captured in order to complete the mission because the objective heals the character who is on it. In order to farm without putting your characters a risk, you should have a "tank" for the enemy to break his weapons on and a healer to keep him alive (note that it is a good idea to remove the weapons of your tank to make sure the boss does not die). Once the boss is weaponless, you can attack him as much as you like without killing him in order to get characters to high levels, it can take time, but since one does not have to kill an enemy outright to gain exp, it is worth it, as it is possible to spend over 200 turns farming the same boss. This is especially effective in the final chapter of Lyn's story, since Lundgren is an upgraded class, this means that unupgraded classes will gain more exp from hitting him and he can take a good deal of punishment from most types of weaponry.
