Lagoe's Naval Gun Overview
47mm & 76mm Naval Guns:
Small, but cheap, and not all that powerful, can be usable in mass numbers in the early stages of the game, but their limited range is their largest downfall.
4.5" Naval Guns (12cm & 13cm):
The former is very cheap, and not particularly powerful, but holds a unique niche in being extremely light and has a high volume, hence a super low density. The latter is an effective dual purpose battery, and a much cheaper short range anti aircraft alternative to the MK45 5" gun.
6" Naval Guns:
Effective, cheap, small, and fairly powerful at a low level, with good dual purpose potential, all these combine to make this 15cm weapon very effective as a better version of the guns mentioned above this.
8" Naval Guns:
The first guns that are bigger than a single cube, these guns are housed in twin turrets capable of quickly pounding lightly armoured foes, and is very cost effective. The only issue is the short range compared to the 12" naval guns.
12 Naval Guns:
If you have this weapon, congratulations, you could be classified as a dreadnought. A gigantic leap in range occurs with these guns, as does a severe rate of fire drop. These guns all come in twin turrets and are renowned for being very heavy. A very effective gun at every level but the highest few. These weapons come in three types, two being identical statewide, although one is larger.
14" Naval Guns:
These guns have only one perk, being light. Otherwise, they are overpriced, similar in range to the previous, larger, and not much higher in damage. Oh well, at least the quads weren't defective like in real life (hello KGV class). These guns come in twins, triples, or quads.
15" Naval Guns:
These twin guns mimick those fitted to the Bismarck (which has 16" guns in this). Similar to the previous guns, but much heavier, but still more powerful.
16" Naval Guns:
The first good guns we've seen in a while, with a massive range advantage, 1000 armor, and capable of sinking many ships, these guns pack a big punch, even for their cost. These guns come in twins and triples. 16" triples were fitted to many iconic American battleships, namely Iowa (which has 18" guns in this) and it's class, the North Carolina class, the South Dakota class, as well as the Colorado class.
18" Naval Guns:
These massive guns were fitted to the mighty IJN Yamato and Musashi. The largest naval guns ever fitted to a battleship in history. In the game, these guns are very expensive, but fire an extremely powerful shell, capable of disintegrating the most powerful of enemies. These guns only come in triples, and in real life, only sunk a small destroyer.
Here's a few things which I didn't put in, the MK45 5" gun, and all the torpedoes, depth charges, planes, and rare metal weapons. But all those except the first aren't even guns.
