Sinking The IJN Yamato Tips - A Guide By Lagoe
Just a quick rundown on defeating Yamato, this should be simple enough.
18.1" Naval Gun Aiming:
As soon as you can, open fire, it doesn't really matter where you hit, so don't try too hard. However, once the gap is closed to about 11 or 12km, start aiming trying to hit the deck on your right of the first forward turret. This will quickly make IJN Yamato list and capsize. MK45 5" guns can help here. Also note that you need a fairly tough ship to do this, but 2000 toughness and 750 armor should do.
Torpedoes (Can Be Somewhat Applied Above Water):
It's quite simple here really, dive, stay at a low enough depth and simply torpedo the dreadnought to death. Some places to aim for are: forward and aft 18.1" gun turrets, the superstructure (angled boiler), but try to avoid hitting the bow or stern front on or at all, as real life Yamato class armor does not apply here.
Dive Bombers & Torpedo Bombers:
As simple as it gets, launch planes, reverse, and wait. If IJN Yamato doesn't sink, then just move closer ram it's wrecked hull a bit, or shoot some holes through it. The Yamato has many AA guns, but with 30 dive bombers, it'll have no primary armament left, and with 30 torpedo bombers, it'll make a nice reef. Fighters can also be useful for disabling it's antiaircraft guns, but generally aren't worthwhile.
Well, hopefully this helped, if not, I apologise.
