Super fast boat with HEAPS of armament!
You want a high speed ship that doesn't flip over at the first turn, combined with killer weaponry? The answer is simple: build a trimaran!
First build a hull with 'large hull'blocks 1 blocks wide, 2 high and 24 long. No angling, just a flat bottom. On the bow end extend the hull with 2x2 'underwater torpedo tube' and place blocks on top of them, making a sharp, angled bow. At the stern also make a sharp, angled stern, but keep the 2nd row from the bottom open. There you place 2 screws and a centered rudder.
Now you have the middle hull of the trimaran.
On top of that place a deck of '600mm lightweight armor', angled at the front and straight at the back, 16 blocks wide, and from the tip of the bow 46 blocks long. Note that the forward edge of the upper deck is angled horizontally to the sides, and vertically DOWNWARD (and so following the line of the bow). You'll notice that the upper deck doesn't reach all the way to the stern, I'll get to that later.
At both edges of the upper deck you build two more hulls in the same fashion as the middle hull (only shorter). The bow of each hull doesn't stick out in front of the upper deck, but each stern does. That gives you a little extra room for some hardware ;-). Each hull gets 3 screws - one outward and 2 inward in line with each other. Behind the outward screw (and next to the hind inward screw) you place a rudder.
Now at each side of the upper hull, and 2 blocks from the front end place a runway. Use a 'deck' and 2 'half deck' blocks to let the runway front run equal with the angled upper deck. purely cosmetic, but hey, it'll be a beauty! Behind each runway place a total of 70m of carrier deck, and behind that a 2 block wide landing sign. The carrier deck gives you room for 7 planes on each side, totalling 14 planes (my configuration: 6x SBD Dauntless, 6x F4U Corsair, 2x TBD Avenger).
Next is the middle hull section that isn't covered with deck yet. Place 2 rows of 5 'hull 3x2x1' blocks, and angle them off at each side with '1/2 hull', angling upward (this is important, for hydrodynamic purposes). So the total width of the rear deck is 6 blocks. at the fore end of the rear deck place an upward tilted 'hull 3x2x1' block, with on top of that an (also upward tilted) 'hull 2x2x1' block. On top of that place 4 'bridge' blocks in a row, with on each side a 'SPY-1 radar' block. On top of the bridge blocks place a 'Rangefinder + Radar' and a 'Mini Mast'. That's your bridge, giving you a sight capability of 37.5km.
On the armoured upper deck you place (from back to front):
- 3x 2 '46cm Gun' (6 in total)
- 3x 4 '40cm Triple Gun' (12 in total), each facing SIDEWARD from the center line.
Don't worry, it'll fit! Just squeeze 'em together. The barrels of the inner turrets will stick into the outer turrets, and their barrels will hang over the runways, but it'll work as soon as you open fire ;-)
- as many 'Mk45 5" Guns' as you can get (I have 7 turrets, but you can place up to 10), facing forward
- and at the very forward edge of the deck, as many 'Type 96 25mm AT/AA Guns' as you can get (I have 8, but there's room for up to 16), also facing forward.
Now there's still some room for a total of 5 '30.5cm Gun (old)' - 2 on the rear end of each side hull, 2 in front of the row of Mk45s, and one turret at the stern behind the propulsion funnels, facing backward. Furthermore you could squeeze in some 'Torpedo Tube A' here and there, and then there are the good-old small guns (1x1x1), like the '47mm Rapid-firing Gun', the '76mm Rapid-firing Gun', the '12.7cm Gun' and the '15cm Gun', which you can use to fill the last holes, right up to that dreaded 100% of hull space, where you curse at not being able to place that last gun ;-).
And - last but not least - the propulsion. Behind the bridge on the rear deck you place a total of 10 (2x5) 'Gas Turbine Engines'. This gives you a ship that sails at a speed of up to 120kts! And that armament! Damn, that'll give a punch! A punch of (on my ship) 46260MW to be precise. Looks like a super-fast, highly agile and hard-hitting warship to me!
