Lower Your Team ERA Without Throwing a Pitch
9 Innings computes ERA (Earned Run Average) from the earned runs incurred by the pitchers currently on the roster (starts and relievers, only, not pitchers in the pitchers room) instead of the team's played games. Thus, if a pitcher with, say, 20 earned runs is replaced by a pitcher with 0 earned runs, those 20 earned runs magically disappear from the team's record. You can see this easily replacing one of your high ERA pitchers with one from the pitcher room who hasn't pitched on your team and thus has no earned runs.
To avoid replacing your regular pitchers with newcomers, you can "cleanse" the record of one of your pitchers by putting him up for sale on the trade market and then immediately canceling. To prevent an actual sale, set the price to 9,000,000 points. He is unlikely to sell at this price in the short time on the market and even if he does, you get 9,000,000 points. You wouldn't even consider doing this cheat if your pitcher was really worth that much, so there's not much risk. After canceling the sale, the pitcher is returned to pitching room. When placed on the roster, his record is empty: no innings pitched, no hits, no earned runs.
