Defeating the covenant
Grunts are by far the easiest and one of the safest, depending on which difficulty you are playing on. On Easy or Normal, these little guys are nothing more than a pain. Just shoot them with any weapon (pistol is good, real good) and they will die. It is smarter to save these guys until last. However, on Heroic and Legendary, these guys are one of more dangerous types. They should be picked off fast, as they will throw grenades A LOT.
Jackals are another one in the easy league, but just like the Grunts and every other kinds, weaklings have advantages, strong have weaknesses. The Jackals are protected by an energy shield. Assault rifle is not that good on them (they will kill them, but you waste some ammunition). It's better to have a plasma weapon to destroy their shields then kill it with the same gun. Their advantage is also this, besides the shield: They charge plasma pistols. Even if you have an Overshield, one hit with a charged plasma pistol will take it all down. That's why on Heroic or Legendary these guys need to be taken out second from the Grunts, as the bolts from him and his allies will kill you even faster.
Elites are the heart and soul of the Covenant military. They are not very strong enemies, so they don't have much weakness. But they aren't that weak either, so not much advantages. They do have, however, the same energy shielding you do. A sniper shot will kill them fast (what doesn't it kill?). They usually hold plasma rifles (the Covenant's machine gun). They are one of the most dangerous in the game, even on Easy.
Ah yes, the final. Hunters. These are huge creatures with full armor that nothing penetrates except grenades (but it will take about five grenades to kill). Plasma grenades aren't the best at them, as they will just slip off the armor. Hunters, when enemies are near, will use its big heavy shield as a melee weapon. It also has a ranged gun built right into its armor: the Fuel Rod Cannon, the Covenant's rocket launcher. They take time to charge up, but even on Easy they deliver devastating damage. Hunters have only one weakness, and one more advantage. The weakness is that when a Hunter has its back to you, or when it trys to ram you with its shield, go behind it and shoot it with a shotgun or pistol (pistol works best, human only). Advantage: They are never seen without another Hunter. Travel in pairs. Well, there you go. Good hunting out there.
