Super Mario World ItemsSuper Mario World Tips & HintsEasy mode Press Select at the main title screen for an easier game.View data and levels Press Select at the level selection screen.Play as Luigi Press R at the world map.Run faster Hold B during game play.Super Mario 64 music Press Select during game play at the map screen to display the level status screen. The music that plays in the background on this screen is from the Nintendo 64 game Super Mario 64.Easy save To easily and quickly save your place, go to Donut Ghost House with a cape. Just as you would to unlock the "Top Secret Area", fly upward in the immediate starting point to get to the above ledge and go through the door to the exit gate. When you return to the main menu, a black box will appear asking you to "Save and Continue" or "Continue Without Save". Select "Save and Continue". Note: If you find it easier to easier, you may use this trick with any ghost house or castle, as they all work the same. To reenter a castle, press L + R in single player mode.Alternate Dinosaur Land If you complete all 96 goals, all the worlds will become a light shade of brown, and Chocolate Land will become green. Pokeys (yellow with needles on them) will become gray, are slightly shorter, and no longer have a smiley face. Bullet Bills (small ones that shoot out of cannons) will become birds. Goombas and Paragoombas (ones where you can step on them, then carry them around) will become yellow and have sunglasses. Jumping Piranha Plants (ones at the ends of vines that shoot out of pipes) will have pumpkin faces. Koopas (common ones with colored shells) will have Mario heads instead of shells. Although different, these enemies will have the same attacks and functions as before.2x bonus After you complete any castle, press Up immediately to get a 2x bonus. This does not work at fortresses. Doing so you should get twice as much as points normal.Easy coins Get a Fire Flower and hit a Chargin' Chuck with five fireballs. Three coins will appear.Easy lives If you are in a level with any kind of shell, hit it with your cape. If you are able to keep it bouncing, you get extra lives for every bounce.Easy level completion On Star Road. get a Blue Yoshi. Go to any outdoor level and eat a Koopa. Fly towards the end of the level. Once you run out of shell power, eat another Koopa and repeat until you complete the level. Note: This only works on levels without a roof, such as Yoshi island 1. This is very useful in water levels.Yoshi's Island 3: Extra lives Before you do this trick, you will need a Feather and have completed the Yellow Switch Palace. When you have done this, go to Yoshi's Island 3 and fly until you see the very first turtles (beside the two question boxes). Knock a turtle out of its shell, steal the shell, and fall off the left edge. When you reach the bottom, you will land on the yellow boxes. Place the shell as close as you can to the wall and stand directly beside it. Then, press B to do a Cape Spin. When the turtle is in the air, jump, do another Cape Spin, and hit it back up. Repeatedly hit it in the air, making sure it does not touch the ground. After awhile, the scores will turn into 1-Ups that will appear after every hit. When the turtle lands, you will have to start all over again.
Information in this section was contributed by Doctor J Vanilla Secret 1: Extra lives This trick is best performed with caped Mario. Go up to the part of the level with the Red Koopa above a Dinosaur Coin and below the Wing Koopa. Destroy the right-most rotating block. Then, hop on the Koopa, grab it, and throw it up. While it is in mid-air, keep hitting it. Eventually you will get extra lives. With enough skill and timing, you can easily max out your lives in a short amount of time. Note: If you miss hitting the shell one time, a message will scroll across the screen showing how many extra lives you have collected and a "Bravo!!" from Mario.Star World 2: Extra lives Enter the level and kick Yoshi so he does not eat the Star. Then, let the Star bounce so it goes near the first two sleeping fish. Get the star and hit as many fish as you can. Make sure you get to the next "?" box with the Star. Hit the box with the Star to get another Star. Go through the level and hit as many fish as you can until your Star runs out. If you get ten or more lives, a little banner will fly across the screen with a 10-up message. Repeat this as many times as needed.Blue Switch Palace in World 5 Pass the half way mark. If you lost your Cape Feather, Fire Flower, and/or Mushroom, press Start and choose "Save And Quit." Then, head back to Super Mario World. Once there, go to Yoshi Island 4 and pick up the Mushroom and Fire Flower. Go to Donut Plains 1 and pick up a Feather. Go to start and press back on both of these levels once you have them all. Return to Forest Of Illusion 2, and you will be at the halfway mark. As soon as you find a Rip Van Fish sleeping on the bottom of your screen, pass that sleepy fish. There is a good chance that you will get hurt. You will find a key. Pick it up and head for the nearby key hole. You will complete that level and a path will show you where the Blue Switch Palace is located.Defeating Bowser When Bowser appears in stage 1, he will fly across the screen. After a few seconds Bowser should go into his face ship and two Toy Koopas should fly out of the sides. Jump on the toy Koopas and pick one up. Run next to Bowser and wait for him to go by. Launch the Toy Koopa at Bowser and should get dizzy. Pick up the next Toy Koopa and do the same thing. Instead of flying around, he should duck and fly into the background. Then he will fly towards the screen. Fireballs should fall onto the ground. Princess Toadstool should appear with the words "Help!" in flashing letters. She will throw a mushroom and go back down. Bowser should re-appear.Flying If you plan to do a lot of flying in a level, before entering it press R to switch to Luigi. After reaching the peak of his jump Luigi can gain even more height if you timed correctly. Do the standard take-off procedure, and hold Forward (while still holding A + B) immediately after he goes into a dive-bomb hold Back. When he gets to the peak of his climb, press Forward again. Mario can not gain any height after the peak of his take-off, but if you have perfect timing, you can get him to maintain his height for a long time. Take off and do the same as above. Immediately after he goes into a dive bomb press Back, and when he reaches the peak of his climb press Forward again.Bonus items You can get extra items, depending what item you carry across the goal line. If you carry a baby Yoshi (from Star World before you feed them six items) or a spring box across, you will get a 1-Up Mushroom. If you carry a P box across, you will get an ordinary mushroom. Also, all enemies on the screen will turn into coins. Note: Hold B while crossing the goal line.Instant large Yoshi In the Star Road levels, grab and hold a baby yoshi then immediately feed it a Star (the item that makes Mario invincible for a brief period of time). It will instantly grow into a big Yoshi. This is especially useful when you need to act fast and you do not have time to feed it six enemies.Yoshi recommendations Use the following tactics if you have obtained all the Star Road Yoshis. If you plan on flying through the entire level, choose the blue Yoshi and get a shell. If you are going to smash a lot in the level, get a yellow Yoshi and eat a shell. If you like to play with fire, get a red Yoshi and eat a shell.More...Items!
