Final Fantasy 8 Tips & Hints

Unlimited Rare Items
You must have ChocoboWorld in order for this to work. What you'll do is to get a lot of items on ChocoboWorld. Then instead of transfering the items immediately to your party, save and quit the game and make a copy of chocorpg.* in the \...\Program Files\SquareSoft Inc\Final Fantasy VIII\Save directory. Copy the chocorpg.*, rename it, and place it somewhere else in your directory. When you load FFVIII and transfer all the items to your game, make sure the Chibocobo goes back into the Chocobo world and is not with your party. Save and quit the game again.

Copy the chocorpg.* copy, rename it into chocorpg (you may have to delete the original file before Windows allows you to do such a renaming) so you can reap the benefits of one play of the ChocoboWorld.

Quick movement in Balamb Garden
When first at Balamb Garden, after you give the tour to Selphie, approach the the directory and press Action. When the directory screen appears, move the pointer to where to wish to go and press Action. You will appear in the hallway in front of that location. Note: This only works at the beginning of the game.

Watts gets hit by train in Timber
On Disc 1 when Watts talks to you in Timber, give the wrong password. He will start directing the base into the station and also get hit by it. The game will continue afterwards.

Low level advantages
Since the enemies level up as you do, try to keep your level as low as possible for easier battles. As long as your magic is good, defeating your opponents will not be a problem. Draw high level magic when your level is low to increase your status.

Play cards with Zell
When Squall takes charge of Balamb Garden, compose a party without Zell. If you go to the first floor, you will find him near the library. You can now play cards with him. He is not a great opponent and he does not have good cards.

Early cards
For some early cards, make sure you talk to the man on the second floor near the elevator. He will give you some starting cards allowing you to begin playing people from this point forward.

Easily removing one card game rule
Go to the region that you want to remove the rule. Ask people to play the game. After the menu that shows the region, "Trade Rule" will appear. Quit the card game without playing. Repeat this several times until the menu displays that the rule "... is abandoned from this region".

2. Mandy Beach, northeast of Timber
3. Heath Peninsula, east of Trabia Garden
4. Kashkabald Desert.

After sighting all four, fly the Ragnarok to the rocky cliffs above the Chocobo Shrine. Encounter a UFO and defeat it. Then, head to the crater where Balamb Garden used to be. You will encounter a PuPu. Feed him five elixirs and you will be rewarded. Its only a level 5 card, but is definitely the hardest card to find.

Black Hole
Mug a Gesper in the second Laguna/Ward/Kiros dream sequence. Black Holes teach Degenerator to Quistis, which is one of her most useful Limit Breaks. Alternately, you can get Black Holes by refining Gesper's card as well as Diablos' card.

Dragon Fangs
Go to Island Closest To Hell and fight Greendels (yellow and green things with a tail blade).

Auto-Potion
This Auto-potion is very useful. It will help during battles, but not in Disc 1. The GFs you want are Leviathan, Cactuar, and Tonberry. They all hold Auto-Potion. It will work on some Bosses but not on Ultima and Omega Weapon. This move will work and help you beat Ultimicia, Griver, Ultimicia-Griver, and True Ultimicia. The party that will defeat those Bosses include Squall and Zell. The Juntion will be in this order. For Squall; Attack, Revive, Magic, Item. For Zell; Attack, Recover, Magic, Item. This will not fail if you are a strong player.

Low level advantages
Since the enemies level up as you do, try to keep your level as low as possible for easier battles. As long as your magic is good, defeating your opponents will not be a problem. Draw high level magic when your level is low to increase your status.

Easy gil
Tonberry's Haggle and Sell High abilities as well as Carbuncle's Recovery Medicine Refining ability must be learned for this trick. Obtain 75,000 gil and by 100 Tents from any shop. Refine them into 25 Mega-Potions, which can be sold for 7,500 gil each. This results in a profit of 105,000 gil.

Saving money
This trick will save 50,000 Gil. When Balamb is under Galbadian control, go to Zell's room and save the game. Go to the Harbor. You will find a Tabloid Reporter hiding behind military vehicles. Pay him for all the information he has then reset the game. You will have all the information, and still have your money.

Easy AP
Start the game as usual and get Squall, Quistis and your GFs leveled up (over 20 for people with GF equipped). Complete the Ifrit sequence and go on to the regular Dollet Town mission. Finish everything up to the spider robot. Knock it out once, then when it begins repairing itself, use another summon (two if it takes that long to get back up), knock it out with a GF again, then run away as Zell suggests. This results in 50 AP points, which can be repeated as long as you watch the timer.

9999 Health
Get to level 43 or higher and draw or refine an item into 100 Curaga. Do not level up. Instead Junction 100 Curaga to HP. If you are not at 9999 HP, put on HP +20%, HP +40%, or HP +80 %.

Early health
When you go to the Tomb of the Unknown King, get Brothers and their Cards. Use Quetzacoatl's Card Mod ability on Sacred's Card to get 100 Dino Bones. Then use Diablos' TimeMag Refine ability to make 100 Quakes for each character. All of your characters should have 2000+ health at around level 15.

Auto navigation
After you get the Ragnarok airship in Disc 3, while flying the ship stop and press Select(3) to display the world map. Then, move the hand pointer to any of the yellow dots on the world map. Press X then select "Yes". Then the ship will auto fly to that location will without you having to steer manually.

Ending scene
Allow the credits to complete after the final FMV sequence to see Squall and Rinoa.

More HP
Have magic Full-Life, learn GF HP-j and HP +80%. Equip Full-Life on HP Magic and have Ability HP +80% equipped.

Hidden song
Place the game disc in an audio CD player and play track two to hear the song "Eyes On Me" by Faye Wong.
