Gran Turismo 4 Tips & Hints

Stay in same gear in Automatic transmission
When using the automatic transmission option, hold R2 to make your car remain in the same gear. This is great for remaining at a given speed through a corner, or stretching the top end of a gear for a little extra speed/performance.

Licence Guides
To get a Blue (acceleration) and Red (brakes) Licence Test Guide simply push R3 during 3,2,1,Start. It shows you the best route to go and where to start braking. This only works on the B and A license tests and tests where there is no pace car.

Hidden Black Cars
On days 694-700 in the used car lots you can buy special black versions of:

1. Toyota GT One Race Car
2. Mazda 787B
3. Nissan R390 Race Car
4. Nissan R92CP Race Car

To Buy them all it comes to roughly 9,000,000 credits

Faster replays
Press L3 during a replay.

No replay music
Press Circle during a replay.

Night/infrared vision replays
During replays, quickly press Square(4) to see a night or infrared vision replay.

Stop scrolling text
At any point that you see scrolling text at the bottom of the screen (at the main menu or when buying parts for your vehicle), press L3 to stop the text from scrolling.

Jump directly to car manufacturer
From the main menu (where you garage is located) press L1 or R1 to go directly to the car manufacturer for the car that you are currently in.

New cars and tracks
To unlock cars and tracks, compete in the GT Career mode. You can earn money there to upgrade your cars, and buy or sell new and used ones.

At the places where you can buy your cars (for example, BMW), you can find races that use a certain model of that dealer. This will unlock some of the bonus cars you cannot normally buy or win in a race. The cars that you get are very fast, and you can sell them for a decent price.

You can win different cars from series races that you have already completed. For some series, you are given the option if you would like to clear your current records. If you do this, you can race those courses over again to win another prize car.

Toggle ghost racer
After you finish one, try a B, A, IB, IA, or S license (1-16) or rally. The ghost racer will be on. If it confuses you, press D-pad Up to toggle it off or on.

Easy money
After transferring your licensees and credits from Gran Turismo 3, buy the Dodge Viper GTS and soupe it up. Then, go to the Special Event races and compete in the Capri Rally Easy. After you win both races, you are awarded with a rally car worth 236,000 credits. Go back to the Capri Rally and compete in it again. You will be given the Same Rally Car. Sell one, and you will have 236,000 credits.

Easy credit!
This is complicated but its really usefull, first you must get a good car, any car that is higher than 350 bhp. Then you have to enter the race called the 'LEGENDS OF THE SILVER ARROW. (GERMANY~Mercedes benz~events~ legends of the silver arrow. Win the race, you win the MERCEDES CLK TOURING CAR '00. Tune the car up to the MAX. Put stage 4 turbo kit and nitro. Nothing else. Then go into the DEUTSCHE TOURING CAR MEISTERSHAFT. EUROPIAN EVENTS~DEUTSCHE TOURING CAR MEISTERSHAFT. This is how to get the BIG CASH: You enter the race, ( by the championship) (B-SPEK) on the first race of the championship when you start the race put the speed of the car to INCREASED PACE and OVRTAKE ( to do the overtake you must press triangle) also speed up the time by 3. You will win for sure. On the second race of the championship you do the same thing as in the first one. On the third race you put the pace yo PUSH HARD and OVERTAKE and speed it up by 3. You will win for sure. On the fourth race do the same thing as on the third. And quit the 5th one. Thats it. 943,000 credit just like that. Kerp on doind that over and over again. But sell the car that you win every time. GOODLUCK.

Beat game the fun way
If you wanna beat the game, this is the most fun game, and the right way to do it. first, you get a green toyota supra, and tune it up all you can, but don't tune it up to max. Keep on racing and beating sunday cup in beginner events. It takes about a week and a half, of playing for an hour a day. It gets pretty boring, but it pays off. Buy the 550hp ford gt, and then tune it to the max. Just go to extreme events, and complete all of the tournaments you can. Sell the cars (unless you can't buy them). Then, everything else is up to you!

Practice
On any race that you enter with an option to "Practice"; this is a hidden qualifying round. It is actually a qualifying round for the race that you are entering. Do the practice until you see first place at the top of the screen. Once you see this, quit practice and start the race in either A or B-Spec modes. Your car will start in first place.

Pit stops
Make a pit stop about every five to ten laps. If you watch your top speed, you will see that it will decrease about 5 mph every three laps.

See sparks
Get a fast car and go to the Max Speed Test. Get to about 200 mph, and on one of the banked corners get very low and swerve hard to the right. Hit the side so that you go up in the air. If you get the nose of your car up high you will land on the back bottom of the car (you cannot see this happen until you watch the replay). When you finish, watch the replay. You will see sparks fly as the car grinds against the paved road.

Avoid driving mission penalty
On Special Event/driving mission mode in simulation, if you hit a wall or car and receive a penalty for it, check if your RPM is above the rev-limiter for the gear that is below (i.e., if you are in third gear then the gear below is second gear). To check if you are above the rev-limiter, if the RPMs are almost redlining then you can over-rev if you downshift. If you downshift when you are redlining in one gear, then the rev-limiter will not allow the clutch to be engaged, allowing you to stay above the 30 mph penalty. You will lose speed, but not as rapidly as you would if you were to drop down to 30 mph for five seconds.

Mercedes SLR McLaren 2003: Retractable spoiler
Put any replay camera on the normal replay mode and look at the trunk area of the car. A wing comes out of the trunk to help slow the car down.

Stay in same gear in Automatic transmission
When using the automatic transmission option, hold R2 to make your car remain in the same gear. This is great for remaining at a given speed through a corner, or stretching the top end of a gear for a little extra speed/performance.

2022 Nike One Morse Code
If you look really close on the side of the Nike One, you can see a small area near the front of the car of morse code. If you go into photo mode, this will become clearer. The morse code is written backwards as to be seen correctly from inside the car. Spelled out, it is " www.Phil-Frank.com " the website of the Phil Frank Automotive and Product Design Company. Phil Frank was paid to design the futuristic Nike car specifically for Gran Turismo 4.

Free Horsepower
When you buy or win a new car, take it for an oil change. After the oil change, your car's horsepower will increase.

Wheelie at 360 mph
Go to Toyota's classic cars and purchase the Toyota GT-ONE Race Car (TS020) for 4,500,000 credits. Buy everything available for the car including the R5 racing tires. Once you have purchased and souped it up, go to the Power and Speed Icon in the top right corner of the map. Select "Driving Park". Then, select MAX Top Speed Challenge to the right, but go backwards on the track. After the loading screen, go to settings (little tool box). Equip and set the following: Tires R5, Nitrous (set the value to 50), Turbine Kit (Stage 4), Suspension (Racing); set the spring rate and the ride height to the lowest possible value (4.0) and (55) respectively; full Customizable Transmission (set the final gear to a value of 3.000) and the (Auto to 25), Driving Aids, (set all three to 0), Down Force (set front to 38 and rear to 88); and leave everything else stock. When you enter the track, accelerate as usual, but go backwards. Wait until you are on the back stretch to use the nitrous to get it over 360 mph and into a wheelie. As you round the last corner leading into the beginning of the back stretch, hit the nitrous and watch the nose of the car and the speedometer rise.

King Dome in Seattle Circuit
Just before Safeco Field (The Mariner's Stadium), the King Dome stands on the right. The King Dome was the Mariner's old stadium and was destroyed in a giant implosion on March 26, 2000, and thus should not currently appear in the game.

900,000 credits in 20 minutes!!!
First you have to buy the Audi TTR Touring car from the german cars. That will cost you 550,000 credits and then tune it up to the MAX. Then go to the Europian Events. You will see the race calle "Doutche Touring Car Maischaft". Enter the race and go to the championship. Pu the mode to b-spec and relax and drink sprite and let the computer win, but when you atart the race then put it to "push hard and overtake mode (by pressing triangle) And put the pace to push hard. When you win the first four races then quit the fith one and you will get 75,000 as the championship win money and then you win a mercedes clk-gtr racing car which is worth 743,000 credits! My e-mail adress is napster_dog_freaky@yahoo.com if you have any trouble. Very easy race to do and you get a lot of money for that race and also you can do the race over and over again! I have got 245,784,987 credits like that and now i have 700 hundred cars goodluck people.

An Easy cr.273,000
Take any car over 200 HP to the Capri Rally and compete in the Costa di Amalfi (only two races, two laps each). Winning both races can be done easily with any good car, and will win you a Toyota RSC Rally Raid Car which sells for cr.263,000. In addition, you will make cr.5000 for each race.

This can be done in under 10 minutes, and with a car that costs about 8,000; '92 Lancer Evolution from Used Car Showroom I. Just pass early and watch those sharp hairpins! ;)

Transfer Files
If you have a save file from GT3 you can import money and licenses into GT4. You can transfer license qualifications but you do not receive the unlockable items that come with the license when you get them without importing. You can transfer money up to 100,000 dollars. This can only be done once.

Easy A-Spec points
Note: This trick requires the iB License. Go to "Driving Missions" and select the ninth one. You will be in a seemingly fast car taking a very fast turn. Instead of trying to overtake the opponent, simply stay dead behind him. When he goes to brake, ram him as hard as you can. Then, brake and take the corner smoothly and finish the race. This requires about 20 seconds, and you will get 250 points each time.

Easy B-spec wins
When you first start the race in B-spec mode, put it in "5" by pressing Right(2), and put it in overtake by pressing Triangle. If your car is better than the others, it will get in first place quickly. When it does, put it in "4" by pressing Left. Then, press R1 and speed the game up by holding L1 and pressing Right(2). The game will go three times faster. Do not press R1 or it will return to. Watch closely -- if you get in second place again you must put it in "5" again.

Race faster in B-Spec
When you are in B-Spec mode, go to the race screen by pressing R1. Then hold L1. While you are holding L1, press Right(2) and the time will pass three times faster. You will have to stay in the race menu or it will go back to normal speed. You can also go two times faster by only pressing Right once but three times is faster. Note: When you pit it will go off the racing menu and you will have to do this again.

Recommended cheap car
It is possible to get a very good car for only 14,000 credits. You will first need to transfer 100,000 credits from Grand Turismo 3. Go to the Used Cars, Late 90's section and hopefully there will be a Subaru Impreza there for just over 14,000 credits. Buy it, then take it directly to Subaru and tune it up as desired. If you have enough money remaining, go to the GT Auto center and its oil (to add about another 15 to 20 hp). Then, buy a new wing for it. You will now have a fast car and should have quite a bit of money remaining.

Recommended fast car
Start by getting the A and B licenses without buying any cars. Use the Pontiac car and upgrade it until you are able to win the Capri Rally. Sell the reward car (260,000 credits) and buy a BMW M5. This will be your extremely fast car. Upgrade it with these upgrades: racing exhaust, both brake improvements, na tuning 1 and 2, port polish, racing chip, nos, triple clutch, racing flywheel,1.5 way limited slip, carbon driveshaft, fully customizable suspension, racing-medium tires, and all three weight reductions. It can easily win the Capri Rally (getting 150 in the straight), to buy you decent cars to get better A points. This car has about 700 HP.

Apricot Hill: Fire
Drive in reverse and get to the second turn before you start going downhill. Look directly over on the mountain side to see what appears to be grayish smoke coming up and blowing towards the right.

Shorten race duration
Enter a race. Instead of racing in A-Spec Mode, select B-Spec. Once the race begins, there will be an option at the bottom of the screen that reads "Race Monitor". Press R1 to access this. A screen will appear with information. At the bottom of this screen there will be an option for "Change View Speed". Hold L1 and press Right one for 2x the race speed, or twice for 3x the speed. This is very useful in endurance races. Note: Once this is done the car will pit automatically, and you will have to redo this every time that it pits.

Ride the walls
In certain courses when there are gradual turns with hard walls and no dirt between them and the track (for example, Costa di Amalfi), instead of braking and trying to take the inside of the turn at the suggested speed, put the pedal to the floor and head for the outside wall of the turn. As soon as your car begins turning in the "suggested" direction the wall is pushing it to, turn your wheel in that direction. If you manage to hit the wall at the correct angle without hitting it directly, you will "scrape" the side of the walls at high speed, and exit the turn quicker and with more speed than braking and turning on the inside. This can shave off quite a few seconds from your lap time with enough practice.

Extra bhp
After buying a car, go to GT Auto and change your oil. You will be got extra bhp for your car.
