Control Codec sequences
Press the Left Analog-stick or Right Analog-stick to move the faces. Press R3 or R4 to zoom in.



Quick skip Codec calls
Press X button to stop the talking, then hold Square until the Codec conversation is done. This is useful when advancing past long, boring intermissions, or intermissions that you have already viewed.



Joke code

Increase grip strength
Press L2 + R2 one hundred times when hanging on a ledge to do pull-ups.



Defeating Fatman
After killing Fatman on the Helipad on Shell 1, he has one last bomb hidden. The bomb is under him. You cannot diffuse it with him in your way. Unequip your weapon, drag his body out of the way, and freeze it with the Coolant.



Defeating Fortune
After you meet her, go to Heliport of Strut E Roof quickly. When you first meet her. it is not really a battle, since you cannot hurt her. Just wait for the elevator to come back down.



Defeating Olga
Shoot the tarp before Olga does, then shoot out the spotlight also so she cannot blind you with it.



Defeating the Metal Gear RAY Army
Use the following tactics when fighting the army of Metal Gear RAYs:

Do not focus on only one RAY at a time. You may kill it quickly, but then the other two will be in the arena with full health and become much harder to kill. It is better to divide attacks up evenly between the first three on the outside, so when they all come in they will be almost dead.

Do not worry about running out of ammunition. As long as you constantly run from missile attacks, you will pick up ammo boxes with ten missiles in each. Also, this is the last battle that the stinger is required, so you do not need to save any.

As you may see throughout the battle, usually when you use a ration another appears in the middle. Do not rely on this for the entire battle. Only about three or four will appear, and then no more.

Do not take chances at the beginning of the battle. You will use up most, of if not all, the rations given to you and towards at the end you will be in some trouble. If you have less than full health, a lot of rations, or want to live dangerously at the end of the battle, take every shot you get.

If you get hit with a missile there will probably be one or two more about to hit you, depending on where they were launched. You have probably noticed that the last one or two will not do damage. However, if two RAYs launch missiles near the same time, if you get hit by the first set you should stay on the ground and the second set also will not hurt you.

When a RAY is using its machine gun and covering its face, if you are fast or have time to shoot one of its knees, the attack will stop and he will be down for a few seconds for a good head shot.

If a RAY is doing its strange roar (where he opens his mouth and blue light comes out), shoot a missile up his mouth. It will do more damage than a normal attack, up to almost half of his health will be taken away. Note: This does not refer to the blue laser attack he does when you are near -- it is the thing that he cannot hurt you with.

Immediately when the battle starts, shoot a missile at the middle RAY, then the one on the right, then on the left. The middle and right RAYs will use their machine guns, but the left one will usually still be open for attack. The one on the left should be RAY-RO3E. Try to eliminate this one, then take the other two down. However, damage them all equally.

You only really have to kill four Metal Gears instead of the average six that people kill until it ends. Look for the RAY with the name RAY-ROSE. It is the fifth RAY, and the only one that is not numbered. He will be easier to kill in the background when the fourth RAY is the main man in the center. He may take no longer, but at least he will not shoot the knee-missiles, which are usually the deadliest weapons. Also, RAY 4 will be get confused because when chasing RAY-ROSE you be running around RAY 4. He will not hit you with anything and then RAY 3 or RAY 6 will just shoot the high missiles which usually will not hit a good player. After you kill RAY-ROSE an intermission sequence will begin and you will have completed the hardest part of the game. Note: Make sure you have about an hour of free time for the intermission to view it all.

Shoot Metal Gear RAY in the leg (one of the targets off to the side), then quickly shoot him in the head when you can lock on to him with your Stinger missile. This will take almost half of their energy, making it much easier to defeat him.

Hit his knee, then his head. Hitting his knee will cause him to go down on one knee and scream. When he is on one knee and screaming, fire a Stinger missile into his mouth. That will cause double damage. Note: This combo might be interrupted by another Metal Gear RAY firing missiles at you. -- dodge the missiles and repeat the process.

Throw chaff grenades, stopping them from using all attacks except missiles. Then, equip the Stinger and aim for the knee of one. Hit the knee and the face will open. Quickly aim for the face, allowing you to do the most damage. Afterwards, dodge the incoming missiles. The only time they will have any other attack other than missiles (if you chaff) is when they jump to the center of the ring. Once there, they will use machine guns and try to step on you. Stinger missiles and rations will spawn a few times. Keep repeating this until you have killed all five. If you are having trouble, just kill the one called "Rose", and the battle will end.

When the battle starts, look closely at the lights on the RAYs. You will notice that they are all slightly colored. The health indicator for the RAYs is color coded to match them with the correct color RAY. Select any RAY, and leave the other two alone for the moment. However still try to dodge their attacks. Fight the RAY of your choice until its energy is gone. It will then retreat and return fully charged. Make a note of which color RAY you just fought, then move onto the next color RAY of your choice. Once you fight and defeat one color of RAY you do not need to bring its health meter down again. All you need to do is make sure you get all the color RAYs health meters drained completely. You really only end up fighting three RAYs.

Once you get one of the RAYs on the dance floor with you, there is a technique you can use to fight them. Run straight towards it, avoiding the machine gun and the strange laser from its mouth, and stand directly between its feet. In that position, he cannot shoot you with anything (and neither can the other RAY). All you have to worry about is getting too close to one foot or another (because he will stomp you) or getting kicked when he moves away from you. Just keep running up to him whenever he moves, and nobody can touch you. Use the Stinger to hit him down at your leisure. Aim for the head because nothing else will do any damage.

When you are alone in the arena, fire your Stingers to only one of the RAYs on the outside. It does not matter how you want to do this -- just get his health down until he jumps into the arena with you. You can hear when their missiles are going to land because they make a sound which gets faster as they get closer. Keep moving around to avoid them. Do not get too close or they will use machine guns on you. If this happens, run back and to the side and they will miss. When one of them is in the ring, run straight towards him. He is now an easy opponent. The other two will not attack because they may damage their comrade. If he uses the machine gun, you can run towards him; if you get too close, he will stop. He will not use the side missiles, but if he does they can be avoided by doing a flip (roll if you are Snake). Do the same when he stamps his foot. Your aim here is to get the RAY to use his laser. Run in front of him, quite close. He will turn from side to side for a bit, then shoot at you. Do not be directly in front, as the laser hurts. When he is using the laser, he will not move. This is your chance. He is more vulnerable at this time. Use Stingers on his face, but from the front or it will be blocked by his neck shield. Repeat this for the other RAYs when they enter. Under the normal difficulty setting, a RAY takes four hits while vulnerable before he runs away. Under the very easy difficulty setting, it loses all its life after one shot.

When you start this battle, shoot the RAY in his knee, then the head. Do not waste time with chaff. Once the RAY jumps onto the platform, move close enough so it will use its beam. When he does, flip away making sure you head back at the same time, then fire the Stinger. If needed there should be enough time for the RAY to reposition itself towards you -- during this time you can crouch for health to save rations and get a better score. This will do the same damage as the knee-head combo plus it will save ammunition for a better score.



Defeating Olga
Although Olga may seem difficult at first, she is actually really easy. Throughout the fight it is probably best that you use the third-person view. Once she targets you, wait for her to take cover, then do a dive roll to move around her to the other side. If she did not see you, she will think you are still where you were and you can approach from behind her. Whenever she uses the tarp for cover, shoot the black plate it is tied to and it will blow away. Repeat this and do not forget to get her dog tag after she is KO'd. Also, climb to the top of the mast for the thermal goggles.



Instant sleep
Under the normal, hard, and extreme difficulty settings, the sentries do not sleep instantly with the tranquilizer gun. Try to hit them and run to them. You may be able to give them the punch, punch, kick, kick combo and they will automatically be knocked out.



Easy kills
The following trick is very useful under the extreme difficulty setting. When enter a room, run across to the other door and lay down. With the grenade launcher, use it in first person view and wait for your enemy to walk up on you. Then, just blast away.



Exploding enemy
Put a C4 on an enemy's back without him seeing you. Press Circle and he will explode.



Choking enemies
A silent and reliable method for knocking out an enemy is to choke them until they lose consciousness. However, this technique has an extremely high chance of "accidental death" due to the enemy's neck breaking. It takes eleven chokes including the initial grab to eliminate the enemy. Therefore, choking the enemy nine to ten times will result in the enemy being "knocked out".



Tranq sword
Press the weapon button (Square) with the sword equipped. Raiden turns the sword around and you can hit people with the blunt side of the blade. This is called a blunt strike. It is possible to kill zero during the game.



One hit knockout
Hold up an enemy, look down at his groin, and hit him for a one hit knockout. This trick also works from behind.



Hitting guards with lockers
If a guard gets suspicious, and he walks over to the locker, press Action at the correct moment to knock him off his feet. If you were spotted, do the same routine. It is best to have another locker open so you can hide faster.



Easily cross minefields
If you don't have the mine dector, but would like to cross a minefield with receiving damage, just go over to the area where you believe mines are and crawl over the area. Not only will you be unharmed, but you'll also obtain any claymore mines that you crawl over!



Halt timer in tanker mission
During the tanker mission, while the timer is running, you can temporarily stop it by knocking out one of the two guards running the cameras on the platforms in Hold No. 3.



Happy Birthday!
At the first node you log into in the Plant Episode, you're given a chance to input your name, birthday, bloodtype and nationality. If your birthday matches with the same date thats set in your PS2 (most likely you set it to the correct day) you'll be greeted by a Happy Birthday logo with a matching Birthday cake.



Hostages in Shell 1 Core B1 Hold
During the Ames search mission, the hostages change depending on the time Raiden meets Ninja after the Fatman battle and the internal clock of the PS2 console.

Revenge of the Seagulls
If you shot enough seagulls with any gun, they'll come and either crap on you or come right up and peck you! Similer to the chickens in Zelda



Radar Girl on the Big Shell
As you wait for snake in the Arsenal Gear corridor, a video will start playing on your radar- DO NOT answer your codec to see the whole video.



Beat Up Loads Of Marines At Once
Ok, first you need the stealth gismo otherwise you get seen, then you just stand next to one MARINE WHO IS IN FORMATION and hit him until snake does a roundhouse kick and the guy goes flying, then sitback and wacht what happens. (Note:dont walk into a marine because your stealth is turned off and you get spotted.)



Make a guard jelous of your d**k
when you are raiden.just after when you have come off the tourture machine run out of both doors and when you see the first guard let him catch you and let him chase you back to the tourture machine press up on it and if you have done it right a straw should cover your d**k and then the guard comes running in and looks down at your d**k and says "huh i wish i had one like that"



Raiden Makes love to Emma
Ok.Play in plant chapter until u get to emma after fighting Vamp. Tap on the locker she is hiding in 20 times then pause the game and press up, down, left, right, circle, circle, circle, square. Open the locker and she will be naked. Raiden will say " your so cute" and emma asks " WIll you make love to me?" Raiden says yes and they do it in the room while water rushes in. The game ends and you get stealth and wig and the hf blade in the beginning when u load again.



God's Luck
Sometimes you'll see a guard getting ready to turn a corner. If you have nowhere to go or you're in a hurry, push up against the wall and face the way the guard came. Keep going and you'll be able to pass the guard without him knowing. Try not to touch him or he'll call for backup.



Casting theatre
Once you complete the game once on any difficulty you get the casting theatre.
In This you can choose which characters you put in each of the nine scenes. eg. Have a group of mmiddle aged women raid the tanker instead of soldiers.



Mei Ling
On the end credits youll notice there is a woman that plays the voice of Mei Ling but she is not in this game. Oh but she is on the tanker episode keep saving as snake (exit the codec then reopen it every time u save) and Otacon will give u chinese folk tales eventually he will loose his bit of paper with them all down and starts making things up then eventually mei ling appears and gives him a piece of her mind.



How to get dog tags
Paraylze some guard and spary him with that cool stuff wot freezes c4s then he will wake up the pull ya gun out at if he will freeze the go around to the front of his body and aim down to his ball he will jiggle a dog tag will drop kill him and get hes dog tag.

Easter Eggs

Embarrased Otacon
On the tanker level in the engine room walk up to where the guard is watching the wall with his scope. Get rid of him and use your camera. zoom in fully and take a picture when snake updates the photos in hold 3 Otacon gets all embarresd and makes a funny excuse (lol)

Computer Room Cameo
While in the Computer Room, look at the walls in First Person mode. You'll see the photo of Charlie's Angels that happened to appear on the cover of FHM magazine.



Control Projector
In Tanker Hold #2, press the button by the projector in the back to change the screen that the image is on. Do it enough and a picture of a woman will appear.



Codec Craziness
While watching any Codec conversation, move the left & right analog sticks and the character's faces will move. Press on one of the sticks, and the faces will zoom in close. Press the R1 or R2 button while Snake or Raiden is listening to someone, and you can hear their thoughts! Some of the guys' secret attitudes toward the other characters are quite funny!



Camera Control in Cut-Scenes
During a cut-scene, you can press R1 to zoom in, and use the right analog stick to move the camera around.



Hideo Kojima Dog Tag Information
When first playing as Raiden, enter the name ''Hideo Kojima'' into the first node. It will automatically put in Hideo Kojima's blood type, birthday, sex, and nationality.



Metal Gear Posters
In the shell 1 core, go to B2. In the main computer area, there are posters of previous Metal Gear games and other games by Hideo Kojima.



The Shaver
If you get the shaver at the beginning of the plant chapter (by jumping over the rail and going into the enclosed area with the space suit within) you will give it to pliskin when you first meet him. Doing this will have Snake clean shaven at the end of the game. This is vice versa as well if you want a "rugged" Snake do not pick up the shaver!



Yoji Shinkawa Dog Tag Info
When first playing as Raiden in the plant chapter, enter the name Yoji Shinkawa into the first node. It will automatically put in all of his statistics.



Duckie easter egg
When you have to get emma out to shell one when down in B1 take air in every spot that you can get a8ir from and look around every one and you'll find a rubber duckie.
