Hold Select + Start at any point after the starting screen. The game will reset and bring you back to the starting screen. This is very useful when you call the Dragon forth, as you can just do this reset if you do not get the desired breakthrough.



Press Start to pause game play during duel mode. Then, press L1 + L2 + L3.



Use the Left Analog-stick to manually move the green radar that passes over the "Dragon Ball Z" logo at the bottom right of the screen. Press L3 to have it resume its normal scanning motion. Note: This cannot be done by player two.

Press Square or Circle at the character selection screen. Your character may have different clothes or colors. Try this with Trunks and make him go Super Saiyan. Note: To see which costume you selected, go to change capsules screen, and highlight a character. R1 displays the Square selection and R2 displays the Circle selection.



Press R1 and R2 at the Capsule change screen to view the character's alternate costumes. Press L1 and L2 to zoom in and out. Use the Left Analog-stick to rotate the characters.



When you start the game and "Press Start" appears, remain idle and a FMV sequence will start. When the title screen appears, the background will be different. There are three or four different backgrounds.



After you complete the story mode you will be able to go back and do new missions in the three different sagas to unlock characters and items. After you do the new missions for each saga (can be done randomly), another mission opens where the story from the cartoon and game is changed. In the Saiyan Saga, you play as Vegeta and take on the Z Fighters. After Vegeta defeats each of them he turns Super Saiyan. In the Namek Saga, you play as Frieza and once again take on the Z Fighters. Once they are defeated Freeza, will use the Dragonballs and ask to be invincible. His wish is granted and he destroys Namek and then goes after Earth. In the Android Saga, you play as Cell. After absorbing Android 17, Cell goes after Android 18. He will try to absorb her but Krillin will jump in the way and be absorbed instead. Cell will become a hilarious fusion between the two. He will then take on Yamcha. After the fight, Tien goes to blast him but Cell suddenly wakes up from a dream. He is in his Perfect form waiting for the Cell Games.

Dragon Ball Z: Budokai ItemsI've heard of alot of people having trouble getting dragon ballz so here is the easiest way by far to the the breakthough for each character (two memory cards are required to do this). First (this is the hardest part) obtain all 7 balls. Now copy this game onto the other memory card and make your wish (if you dont like the options shenron gives you remove the card and make a selection. since there is no card the game wont save and you can get to go back and try again to get the character you want), then go to the trading option. Trade all 7 dragon balls from the second memory card to your game. Then copy that game onto the other card again. Repeat as needed. this will save the absolute insanity of gathering the balls each time and will save you many hours.



When in Tournaments, instead of trying to kill the CPU opponents, just lure them close to the edge of the ring. Tap X + Down to move behind the opponent, then use a strong move to knock them out the ring.



Once you have completed story mode once, you will notice that there are some people missing, except for Gohan as a super hero and Hercule who get unlocked in world championship mode. Go back to story mode and you will see what you have done instead of starting a new story. Some of the episodes will have "New" beside them. Go into those episodes to get new players and new player abilities, such as a Super Saiyan for Vegeta.



If you put in two capsules with a description that reads "attacks with oppressive force", the move will last longer and have more hits than usual.



If you are doing a combo that your having trouble with (for example, the Super Kamahamaha (K(2), Right + K, K, E), hold the D-pad and press the rest of the moves and it will put in the arrows. For example, hold Right and press K(2), K(2), E.



Get the Super Saiyan ability, then press R1 + R2 to transform. This can be used for anyone's type of transformation. Note: This can also be used to do the King Kai Fist and Unlock Potential.



Within the game you can collect the seven Dragon Balls. In order to get them, you have to buy them at Mr. Popo's shop. However, they are very rare. They cost 8000 Zenie each and will only appear in a "Recommended" or "Gambled" Capsule. After collecting all seven, go to the Caps List option in the "Edit Skills" menu. Then go along to the second to last list. If all seven Dragon Balls are present, press X and you will be asked if you wish to summon Shenron. Select "Yes" and you will be given the option to "Breakthrough" three random characters. Breakthrough is a Capsule which will open all the Death Moves, Transformations, and Physical Moves of the character in possession. However, it takes up seven ability slots and cannot be equipped in conjunction with anything else. After choosing your character, the Dragon Balls will disappear and you will have to collect them all again.



Get 12,000 Zenie go to "Recommended" in Mr. Popo's shop. When you see Frieza's Space Ship. pay the 12,000 Zenie. This Capsule takes three spaces in Frieza's slot. When you die, Frieza's Space Ship appears and restores everything. It also transforms you into Cyber Frieza.



On world championship mode, if you win you get 10,000 Zenie and second place gets you 5,000 Zenie. This is useful because when you go to the shop and buy the Red Capsule, you will get some very good moves such as Super Saiyan Trunks, Kamahamaha for Krillen, and even Super Saiyan Level 2 for Gohan.



When selecting Capsules for any Saiyan, half Saiyan (except Saiyanman), or Cell, you can trick the CPU into giving you an extra slot. First, use four slots for anything, then use the 1/3 Sensu Bean and Saiyan Heritage. There should be an empty slot at seven. Next, replace the 1/3 Sensu Bean for a normal Bean. In effect, you will get a full Sensu Bean for two slots instead of three. You cannot trick the CPU into changing the new eighth slot into anything else.



For easier transformations, enter the options screen. Select the controller option then move over to "Custom". Hold L1 and press Left or Right until you see P + K + G (the transformation buttons). You will now have L1 as a transformation button. Note: You can do the same thing with taunts; just press Left or Right or left until you find P K G E.



To easily defeat an opponent, go to "Edit Skills" and give your character a Viral Heart Disease Capsule and a Vaccine Capsule. The Vaccine Capsule negates the effects of the Viral Heart Disease Capsule on your player, and only your opponent will get their life drained.



When battling in practice or duel mode in the Grassland, you will notice two large boulders placed on opposite ends of the arena. Push your opponent towards them and get very close to the boulders. Do a combo move that ends with a power strike facing towards the boulder. You can also hold Forward and hold R1 for a few seconds to charge up a hit, then release, causing a power punch. This will cause the enemy to go flying into the boulder. You may have to move around to find the correct point to send them flying into. You will see a short intermission with the bolder breaking off of the mountain and falling on top of them. You can also do this to the other boulder on the opposite side of the arena. This will also give a smaller battling range once the boulder is removed. To do this again, just return to the arena. Note: This bolder does 500 damage to the opponent. Also, if you look closely at the mountain, you will notice there is a cracked portion. Slam them in the middle of the cracked portion and it should break off, doing 500 damage and falling on them.



You can destroy Kami's lookout with Goku's Spirit Bomb or Hercules' Present For You. After you destroy it, you will fight in an area with a lot of dirt and a few mountains.



At the beginning, go towards your opponent then hold Forward and keep tapping Punch. You will eventually knock them back. Run to them, and when they get up, either do it again or hold Forward and keep pressing Kick to get a ring out. This will work if they do not block. If they block, then block them until you think you can punch them then do the punch or kick combo. If you have Viral Heart Disease and Vaccine, customize him with them. If you cannot get a ring out, then you will at least defeat them with a K.O.



Use the following trick to win a match of any kind with Goku. First, unlock the capsule for Warp Kamameha. Then (optional), get a lot of item capsules such as Saiyan Spirit to power-up Goku. Go to "Edit Skills" and give Goku Warp Kamameha and any other desired skills. Then, when you pick your character, choose custom Goku. When the match starts, use Warp Kamameha. When your opponent is down, recharge your Ki (press X + Away(2) and hold). Repeat the process and you should win with three or four Warp Kamamehas.



When the match starts, use Present For You. When your opponent is down, recharge your Ki. Do not turn to Super Saiyan as this will make your Ki decrease slowly. Repeat the process three or four times and you will win.



For a ring out, use Punch(2), Kick(2) to knock your opponent close to the edge of the ring. Next, use a series of kicks, or Punch, Kick to knock them out. For a knock out, once you get Super Trunks, Super Trunks2, and Super Saiyan, this will be easy. At the start of the match, turn Super Saiyan instantly. Every second counts. Gather your energy by powering up or repeatedly attacking your opponent. Launch a Burning Attack. Doing this should weaken him. You can then avoid losing by staying away from the edge and knocking your opponent's lights out. Also, once you get Dr. Gero's Perpetual Energy R&D move, equip Trunks with it. Then, have two Burning Attacks, a Finish Buster, and a Senzu Bean. If you have any more slots, equip as them as desired. Then, once the match begins, you can have nonstop Burning Attacks until your opponent is defeated. Note: With this move, transformation is impossible. All the special moves listed can be bought at Mr. Popo's skill shop.



To make someone's hits higher, just add any move on to them that has a description of "Attack with oppressive force". Then, add whatever else you want to the character. It is recommended that this be done to Kid Gohan or Teen Gohan because their attack can get at least forty hits.



This has no purpose other than a laugh, and will not unlock anything in the game. Enter practice mode (or two-player duel if you want to play with a friend) and choose your characters and stage. When the fight starts, put as much distance between you and your opponent as possible. If in practice mode, set the opponent's action to Deflect-Back at the pause menu. Once you are as far away as desired, launch an energy ball by pressing Circle. In practice mode, your opponent should knock it back at you. Just before the ball hits you, press guard (X) and if it timed correctly, it should be reflected back at the opponent. In a two player match, you can play it like a proper game. For example, flip a coin to see who serves (launches the energy blast). Set a score limit. If the Ki ball is knocked away, hits, or is hit by another Ki blast, whoever reflected the ball last gets the point.



At the character selection screen, choose the first character (player one or two),while the other player waits. After the first player chooses, remove the memory card from slot one and put it in slot two. You should now be able to choose another custom character for player two.



When in tournament mode with both you and your opponent have low life and both of you kill yourself, the game will announce a Double K.O. and both of you will lose.

(Goku, Kid and Teen Gohan, Vegeta, Trunks, Raditz, Nappa, and Cell) Select one of the characters above and make sure that they have an empty capsule tray. Then, put down at most three capsules. Then, put down 1/3 Senzu Bean and then Saiyan Heritage. Then, put down a capsule that will take up the second to last capsule slot. Finally, replace the 1/3 Senzu Bean with a full one So you will have more place for capsules!
