Product Description & Features
The Microsoft-built Xbox 360 video game system features loads of fun experiences that the whole family can safely enjoy. Apart from games like Viva Pinata for younger gamers to mom-centric games like Uno and Zuma to more adult experiences like Halo 3, the Xbox 360 can also download full length movies and play DVD-based movies too.
So simply plugging the Xbox 360 into the TV adds another place for you or other family members to watch movies. Controlling the DVD functions is done by using the controller that comes with every Xbox 360. Some of the consoles also feature DVD remotes to make it easier (and most new universal remotes now feature Xbox 360 compatibility). Later this year, Netflix members can even stream movies right to their TV with an online-enabled Xbox 360.
Speaking on online capabilities, Xbox 360 is connected online through a Microsoft-only service known as Xbox Live, and all owners are considered Xbox Live Silver members (which is free). This gives you access to the Xbox Marketplace, which features free demos and game trailers, and if you're so inclined, you can buy Xbox Live Arcade games and even TV shows and movies.
For an upgraded experience, members can upgrade to Xbox Live Gold membership for an additional $50 per year. This gives you the added ability of playing with and against other Xbox 360 owners through the network.
For a system this heavy with features, parental controls are very important, thankfully the Xbox 360 doesn't disappoint. If you have several children in the house, parents can assign each member of the family a different profile that lets them quickly access the things that they like to do. It also allows parents to choose the types of content that are age or interest appropriate and is locked by a password that parents setup.
