No, but of you want to make torches, burn wood in the furnace to make charcoal. There's a reason there's two torch options when you try to craft. One is a coal torch (first one) the other is a charcoal torch (second one)

There might be coal a little bit inside of hills. Of you can't find any there, dig the ground all the way near the bedrock and you'll see like 20 coal blocks. If not, keep randomly digging and you'll find hundreds of hundreds of coal. I know where coal is extremely common. Sorry, I cannot tell you.😔 Your wondering why.........
