Cave entrance year 6 chapter 4

How do i apparate in order to use the deluminator for the last lamp at the entrance? each time i press 'a' to apparate a circle comes up to choose a direction but the top screen on the ds is not a touch screen. using the keypad isnt working. what am i missing?

Once the arrows are there the opens that are lit up are the directions you can go in. press the direction you want to go on the directional pad and simultaneously hit a/release a. (:
