How do I stay on the zipline rope in Shriek Mansion 3-1?

When I get to the zipline rope thing in Shriek Mansion 3-1, on the gaps, I don't know how to stay on the rope after the gaps.... I've tried pressing A or letting go and then immediatley going back on but nothing I've tried works... it's driving me nuts!!
