How do you glide

I am getting really annoyed have been stuck on it for ages can people please tell me what buttons i need to press so spyro can jump higher and longer .

When you get half way in the game when you upgrade sypro with his power you will get another power from the other dragon, you can't do the whole game with just a jump now can you? :) hope this helps:D
