How do i get my nothosaur to fly?

Yes if you go to the shallows where the tiny portal is and go on land with him dig up the fossil and try to climb the tree you will start to fly. you can be anything you want if you land on land with him or in water with anything that swims you go back to normal if you land on volcano the game freezes.
