How do you get the first pokemon in your party to follow you? one of my friends managed to do it, but he can't remember how.

Have them at the lowest level possible. no shadow pokemon. purify all. catch the secret mew (the hq lab - where the masterball is). after you beat the game, go where you found the masterball in the hq lab. dont lose a single battle in the whole game!!!
