Craft items going missing

Items I have crafted have not appear in my bag so I've spent loads of time crafting and collecting items, like paper and pen for Billy, only for them to disappear. Is there a limit on how many items my bag can hold? Or is this a glitch? Really frustrating when crafting takes so long and uses vital materials needed for other things. Can anyone help?
