Scrolls for the Chief

I have dug out nearly 25 scrolls from the cave but it will not complete the quest. How am I to get these to the chief so that I can complete this?

If I remember correctly, try clicking on the chief to give him the scrolls. Some quests don't automatically complete themselves.
