I need to convince Sunclaw but I may have already looted the chest with the tooth.

You can get to the temple of azra without getting Sunclaw's help. Just swim out to Drake Island and find the chest (note also that you can pick up a drake egg to ride later). Then just go to the entrance of the Temple and the key will open it. Needless to say, however, you will have to deal with many more desert slugs...
