I just bought the second explorer and can't find the difference between them? is it worth buying all of the explorers?

There doesn't seem to be any difference. it's better to get the "powerups" & "utilities" as you pickup coins during the game. once you have enough of them and have extra coins you might want to use them to activate extra players to get the dynamic duo, fantastic four & sexy six trophies.
