Find and trade a staff for mortemer's scepter? can't seem to find anything.. help?

My friend is trying to do that quest and she thinks that u r supposed to buy it from almeric but she might b wrong. hope it helps!

The scepter might be in the tree trunks in the forest. i think thats where i found it.

I found the sceptor in the wood pile in the tavern

You buy a scepter from almeric then search in the wood pile
