They can't grow up (yet?), if your kid is a pre-teen he can not grow anymore.

Click on your teen so the green diamond is above it and click the person button at the bottom of the screen and in the top corner it will have a little person with a line through it click it and press yes

You cannot make your preteen a regular teen becuase the Update has to come. It may come soon we hope I have like 13 preteens and I need them to grow up! But we all know we have to be patient :/

You have to build the karate and ballet studio have the pre teen sims finish all the levels of karate or ballet and get them to have the highest grade possible to become older

I have professional level preteens and A+ grades. They will not grow without an update. There is no trick.
