You'll need the Dimension Rift spell to do this , as the King's protective barrier is powered by two energy pillars which are only visible in the alternate Dimension. (if you don't have the Dimension Rift, you can get it in Fiery Depths by getting to the top of the shaft with the rising lava - when you get to the top, the Master's there and he'll take you to the place where it is).

Start off by activating the Dimension Rift - you'll see the two pillars sending red streams of energy to the King's barrier. Hit the top of each pillar to deactivate the energy streams and the King's barrier will drop. Come out of Dimension rift, or you'll have the side effects of that to deal with as well as the King and his Ice Bugs.

Once the king's barrier is down, start thwacking him with your sword. He'll spit out ice bugs periodically which you'll also have to take out, but keep at it until his barrier goes back up again. When it does, reactivate Dimension Rift and knock out the energy pillars again. Shut down the dimension rift and go back to battering the King.

This all sounds very easy - but it isn't because the floor's so incredibly slippery, and the King's spitting ice bugs at you which send you sliding off in the wrong direction - so, if you're anything like me, you'll die a lot before you finally defeat him! But persevere and you'll get there.

Sorry everyone - some duff gen in the last answer! To get the Dimension rift spell, you need to go to the Hall of Trials on the other side of the Frozen Temple. It's the Dragon's Grasp spell that you get in Fiery depths.
