To make a torch you combine coal and sticks together on your crafting table and to find coal di into the stone in mountains until your find stone with black spots in it, that is coal, mine it (it looks like a black lump when you collect it).

So how to make a torch is you need sticks and coal(baked from wood or mined). Then go to a crafting table(made from 4 planks). Find torch and touch it. It makes 4 torches at a time.:) hope this helps!
