How to pick up a crate?

I see crates on some levels, but cannot maneuver to them using the arrows on the side of the screen (above the xray and bullets). I just shoot them in frustration... how does one get to the crates?

If you can't tap them... Aim at them through your scope to make them bigger then tap them in the scope
