How can I get more saphires?

I have been trying for days to complete the task of up grading my cattle ranch to tier 3 but sending all my ships on 24 hour voyages and coming back with 20 is going to take weeks as it is 220 saphires for each stage of the tier. At this point I would even purchase them because I don't have any other challenge to complete. Someone please help

Some of the voyages give much more in jewels, have you purchased for coins more ships?
