Upgrading merchants
I'm just getting started and have about 10 merchants. Is it better to upgrade merchants evenly or to max out one merchant at a time?

It is easier to keep up with merchants by upgrading one at a time. Your merchants list will clearly state on the menu which ones are fully upgraded so you won't have to check each one as you increase in number. I currently have 79 of 107 merchants.

Suggest you look at which merchants pay the most coins for that upgrade. Upgrade the fleet to maximize what pearls and other gems they will return on voyages to allow you to keep upgrading the merchants.
