I completed level 50 so long ago that I can't even remember when. How do I open up hidden areas now?

Unlocking hidden areas depends on finishing quests. If you clicked on the hidden area you wish to unlock it will tell you which quest you need to finish to unlock this particular area.

BTW, many of the quests require using rubies, which you either have to buy with real money, or get slowly by collecting coins, doing mermaid spins (an overall losing process), earning a free spin after 20 spins, then spinning the high ruby spin (the third choice on the right). I have only gotten two rubies on my free spins.

LOL yeah when ever I get a free spin I either get 1 ruby, 10 pearls, or a small sum of gold, hardly note worthy
