Force fields deactivation

How do you deactivate the force fields. I can't always get the green button to turn orange.

I tried the paralyzing power and it did nothing. I finally figured it out. You use your sniper rifle, pull the scope up to your eye and visualize the green button, it then turns orange and the force field turns off.
