How do you get the three coins that are high in the air above the last checkpoint?

You have to do a shield break somewhere near the last check point. I am certain that's how to do it but I can't quite get the timing down for it yet.

I've been trying that but I've only got high enough to get the bottom coin. The positioning of them makes it look like you can drop down onto them but can't find where from. The annoying thing about trying the shield break you mentioned is that once you've realised you've got it wrong you've already gone through the checkpoint so have to start the level again! I must have played this level 100 times so far. I think I'm catching OCD :)

Cheers guys iv been trying those things aswell but can't get the timing right and it's the only thing I left to do in the whole game.
