What's the best sort of ship?
What's the best way to build a ship? Fortress type things which don't move or normal ships. Does it matter?

It really doesn't matter. Just find a ship that is fit and easy for you to use and add armor and weapons. And fortresses can actually move like the ones in the shop.

You would want a fortress for better fire power. The cannons are long ranged and they are REALLY powerful. Or if you want customize it. Put a few propellers on it three of four rudders and about two large boilers.

Build a big ship full of 600mm lightweight armor, or 400mm normal armour. Make sure the stability of the ship is at least 100. To check stability, click on the 'i' on the bottom of the customizing screen. This type of ship is good.

Either two ships I think. A fortress type ship, which doesn't move but has heaps of the largest cannons. Or a smaller ship, VERY fast and heaps of missiles. I'm still new to the game do I'm figuring it all out. Bloody awesome game though. Needs a better targeting system tho.

Just make a 24x1x24 platform made from entirely "hull" then just put 9 "46cm guns" all pointing at the front...... when you hit an enemy they cant move from the damage they will take.......it makes it rain ammo on the opponent

The best ship I built so far is a long, sleek (a bit like the Yamato design), hollow (so make sure the bottom is all ballast!) hull design covered with 600mm light armour, and wide enough (8 blocks) for two 46cm turrets facing forward, and the aft one placed one block higher. Where the hull to the front narrows to 6 blocks I placed a 40cm turret, and where it narrows to 4, I placed two 30,5cm turrets.
The advantage of all three gun types, is that they all range 10km and beyond.
The bridge is placed as far to the aft as possible, so all the turrets can face forward. Free space in front of the bridge is used up with smaller guns, behind the bridge two large boilers, and aft of that another 40cm turret facing rearward, added with a couple of 125mm turrets to cover your six. Attach six propellers and two small rudders right behind the two middle propellers, and you're done. Because of this design the ship tends to tilt to the rear a bit when coming up to speed, but I solved that by using heavy ballast forward instead of normal ballast, and building the bow as a 'bulb' type, using half ballast blocks.
The result is a battleship with a stability of about 70, which packs a BIG punch, and runs a staggering 55 knots! It should at least enable you to end all the missions in Drill mode, because of its huge firepower and speed

I bought the ship yamato, edited it, mounted 5 46cm en 17 30.5 cm guns. And with correct positioning of blocks it goes 142.5 knots with 12.6 range and 2552 strenght. So just see what the best shape is for you, 1 tip: use large hulp segments for quick building and high speeds( size/weight ratio)

I built a 9 island gun platform with 9 46 cm guns, 6 30.5 cm guns and 20 smaller guns on the perimeter in case I run into someone with a fast ship. This allows me to maximize firepower for weight. The hull is all 600mm light and ballast on the center sections only. I rarely lose, but battles with other big platforms take forever... Strength is 4000, toughness 1300, armor 1600' and stability 520.

A trimaran is my personal best. It has stability over 200. Put all the boilers in the middle section and the guns outside. Make sure to use the both ends and both sides. Put propeller under each sides. You should have speed of at least 60 knots.

The best kind of ship is just the Bismarck with half hull at the back like two fins one fin 1x3 at the deck and one at the rudder. I go 194.4 knots and win alot

I simply used the miska and upgraded it with 600mm armour and 2 angled boilers plus all the speed cheats I can get. The trick is to strip it down the only add guns and armour. I can achieve 194.7 knots. I have a 40cm tripple and double the 2 36cm guns finally the 2 original cannons you get. One. More tip take all the "block" guns on the side. It removes a lot o weight!

Well you can go a few ways into building the best ship. You can have an inpenetrable fortress, A fast and deadly speed ship, or a little bit of both. Some I've seen are 600mm armored ships that have engines underneath or level with the ship so you can fit more, Flying ships, Super fast ships and what not. I made a fortress that is immune to almost ALL Damage possible. It only goes some 20 knots. Laugh at the speed, but it lacks in speed it makes up for strength and toughness. Strength is roughly 3000 and the toughness is about 1300. This fortress does NOT have any 46cm guns, but it has everything else. From 76mm rapid fire guns, to quadrouple 36cm guns and 40cm guns.

Two ships connected by a small platform gives a high stability, I copied the basic 400mm skeleton from scratch twice, connected them by a playpen big enough for an angled boiler, placed all me long ranged turrets (which are much weaker than yours) and got a stability of 200+ and though the armor seems pretty weak it rains bullets on the enemy. Good for long range, maybe classified as a fortress. I'm still a newb and 9/10 of my cannons are the ones that cost 5000plus each, with six 15000 turrets and one 30000 turret. I design new ships every few days...still struggling to get a balance between armor stability and space for my turret spamming.

If you are confued by all the different things, invest in a couple of good engies, build a armpit playpen thy barely floats and using propellers, lift yourself uprising a fight. It might fail but come in handy on other ships as a last minute lifesaver.

The best design that I've found so far is a flat bottomed boat that is mostly 600 mm armor, eighteen angled boilers, and five 46 cm guns.

After reading some of these comments it decided to post what i thought: My ship is 5 large hulls wide and around 8 long(a pointed front is part of that) then i covered the top in 600 mm armor and put a layer of heavy ballest along the bottom. With about 300,000 dollars worth of heavy cannons on it it can take out the level eights in one volly of shots and cripple the fortress woth two... Plus the three angeled boilers allow it to go at around 80-90 nauts... Online it dominates because it is not only stacked with guns but also hard to hit because of its speed. So what i am getting at is that if you are willing to spend some time and money you can get the best of both. (I take pride in earning all the coins that are used to build myships because i am to cheap to buy a coin pack) i hope this helped -jake

I just used a triple decker armoured aircraft carrier with 2 decks for runways and a 46cm gun with many other guns on the topdeck. I put a massive shield on front with a couple holes in it to launch aircraft and also to shoot. Btw I have 20 aircraft across 2 decks. To stabilise I used 4 floats to achieve over 200 stability. I also added a few underwater torpedoes onto theffloats. Unfortunately the cost this thing is 1.8 million as I used nearly all 600mm lightweight except for the inside and very bottom where I used 3×2×1 hull.

You could also make a hybrid, since it could be very useful in battle. you could make a hybrid aircraft carrier and battleship, with aircrafts and cannons. You can also combine other forms, such as carrier with submarine, submarine with battleship, and there are infinity amount of options. You can go to the gallery to see all the different ships
