I, personally, use a custom made fortress. If you can make it go faster then fifty knots, it can maneuver enough to take out most traditional ships. Faster ships can be an issue, but if you use 600mm light weights, they usually can't do enough to sink you. Submarines are a unique problem. I don't fight them often, but when I do, I utilize torpedoes of all kinds and depth charges, and they usually sink easy enough. Just make sure you know where all your weak spots are and don't develop some "my ship is god, I can do whatever" complex. That'll sink you faster then enemy weapons.

It depends on how you use it. If you like to blow up the enemy ship as fast as you can, fortress is for you. if you like a good combination of speed and fire power, choose a ship. Jaryd T is right. Submarines are a problem for fortresses.

I agree with both unless you have 3 depth charges but if you want to be weak and fast try ship if strong but slow fortress but here's the thing but ppl will hate u make a platform ship filled with 46cm guns but don't forget boilers try looking at the battleship craft fb page it will give u tons of ideas what to build

Subs,? Never faced one that could do anything.. Lol all they ever did was shoot at me with 10 torpedoes as I sailed by.. But that is in my speed boat lol, 130Knots! I wish I had a depth charge.... But yea. Fortress will become one dead critter if you see a sub and you don't have any sub defense. Remember though a depth charge can't really be shot like a 46cm gun but kind of roles with a nice arch

I have a very good submarine and they are very hard to defeat i personally chose heavy armor battleships since a fortress is very slow and are a easy target whatever you pick make sure it has good anti submarine weapons for the day may come when you must face a submarine .

I could go on and on about sub hunting but either way you need anti sub weapons. The trade off is power and strength for maneuverability. Fortresses are all about firepower and taking a beating on a stick but it doesnt seem relevant to make it go fast considering your enemy would have other problems if he misses a 400x250 ship. If you play it right, you can have close to an unsinkable fortress. The one I have is combat capable after taking a mine. I would still go for small and maneuverable. It doesn't pay to have all the big guns when you can't hit your target he's moving to fast. Plus the more small and agile you are, the closer you can get to your enemy than he can get to you, if that makes sense.
