Frozen screen -cannot continue

After pausing a game the screen has become frozen - cannot work out how to get going again. Help!!

I'm assuming you've tried tapping resume. Hmm... My series of events would be: Restart app, restart app again, restart app a third time to be sure, restart phone, load app. Unless my phone is jailbroken, the app usually starts working after I reboot the phone.
