Question & Answers

How do you kill it?

I am about to buy a sub probably a u-boat and I realized one deep question: if you fire a underwater torpedo it goes to the surface so what if you battle vs another sub do you ram the damn thing?

Yes, ramming would be the only way, since the torpedoes can only glide on the surface, therefore it would only be able to hit a sub. if it were submerged.

Unless you surface to launch depth charges which in turn leaves you vulnerable to attack from simple torpedoes. Yeah, there isn't much you can do really.

I have sunk my friend's sub with underwater torpedoes for many times. Although the torpedoes seemed to glide on the surface, it blew up and sunk the sub. This may be a glitch.

I think the torpedos come to the surface to show you where they are. This allows you to see which torpedo is whos becasue of the direction it would be going in.

In real life, torpedoes have the same density as water and they also have ballast tanks to regulate depth. I believe that the trail of water left by torpedoes is just the bubbles made by the propeller and the real torpedo is submerged a few feet/meters underwater. My guess is that the torpedoes have the ballast tanks in them so they submerge to the right depth and the trail is just the bubbles coming off the propeller. Just my 2 cents worth.

This is what's happening: 1. In answer to the other answers, you have good guesses but are wrong. The torpedoes really do travel the surface. 2. What IS happening is that the torpedoes on the surface can hit the other submarines depth guage, enabling subs to kill other subs without surfacing. If you really wish to design your sub to be able to win sub v. Sub battles i would suggest giving it some small guns, and taking the surface in these battles.
