How to use the bird caller?

Right, I have been using the bird callers that you collect from the wheel after you die, or you can buy from the market, and when you use it, it appears in the bottom left hand corner, but it never works! I have been clicking on to it! Does anyone know how to use it?

It is passively active. All it does is make more birds than normal appear during the game you used it on; no need to click on it during gameplay.
