Stuck in Episode 5 Part 1

Defeated all the monsters to open the two gates (halfway through), but I can't get past the area with the mushrooms. How do I get past the place with the platform?

The platform you can't get past is actually the second one you come to. You have to put some boxes on the first platform and it will make the second one raise up.
