Mannequin Colour

If you improve your mannequin to black/pink/red but still use a lower-level colour (white, for example), does that mean the (effect of the) improvement doesn't work? (I basically like black or white best but don't want to spend the design bucks if the improvement only works if you actually use red/pink)

They work as long as you actually buy the color, you don't necessarily have to use it
