Stingray quest this weekend
Received a quest to grow ANY 8 rare plants. Ended up spending most of my sand dollars on this quest. Ended up all together planting 14 mystery seeds at 1200 each and 2 extraordinary mystery seeds. Which the extraordinary seeds are the only ones they accepted. Needless to say I did not get my stingray. ( yes my plants grew in the allotted time.) :( any ideas what I did wrong?

I had the same problem. Then I realized 2 hours before out of time for this quest that the regular mystery seeds do not always give a rare plant and it is more random, and that the extraordinary seeds will always give you a rare plant.

Tdecker, you'll be able to tell right away when you plant your mystery seed if it will be a rare plant: it will sparkle. Is that why you did 14 of them, because none were sparkling? Wow, that is a lot and a terrible ratio of not-rare to rare, sorry to hear that. One thing I've had some success with, not always but pretty often, is to delete a rare plant (a duplicate of one you've already got), and then immediately plant a mystery seed in its spot. This seemed to work for me on the first replacement, but not so much on subsequent tries of the same square. Also, a brand new patch of land seems to grow more rare plants than patches where you've had plants grow before. Now, I don't know if any of this is TRULY a key to success, I'm just sharing my experiences. I did get the stingray last weekend, by Saturday night actually, and only had to use two extraordinary seeds. He's cute! Good luck to you!

Thank you. I guess that is we're I messed up. I thought any plant in the nursery under "rare" would be applied. I didn't have many pearls. I bought 2 extraordinary plants.they counted but none of the mystery seeds counted. Thank you both got the advise :)

Even if it does sparkle, it may not be a rare plant.
