Question & Answers
Sea Pen Special Weekend (and other commentary)
I've been at level 40 for a couple of months now, just trying to get the last rare fish I need. I'm getting frustrated because when I started the game, there were only 32 rare fish to get, now there's a total of 36. Seems like when I finally get a new rare fish, they're adding another one to get.
Also, I saw the ad for the Sea Pen weekend special (weekend of 9.6). They always know JUST how to entice you to buy pearls, don't they!? This Sea Pen is the best algae-producing plant yet- 50 algae every hour AND it only takes up one square versus four like every other coin and algae producing plant (so you could fill in your reef with hundreds and hundreds of these).
Also, I only have the Yellow Mermaid's Fan Plant left to get, so I now only get the Spectacular Seeds (45 pearls. yikes). Even though I keep getting the same rare plants, I do get the higher vitality plants and can sell off the lower value vitality plants, freeing up space for more Egg Shell Coral.
I started this game back in March and was thinking I'd have it completely done by end of summer. But with the new added rare fish left to get, I'll probably be playing this game until "Finding Dory" comes out on the big screen.

You have so many of my frustrations too. (Level 40 for months and only Blue Sea Grapes left to grow) (but seriously I dont think they will ever let us finish)
Thankfully I decided to always keep a stock of 100 pearls in case another special weekend fish suddenly became available which usually involves opening chests at 8 pearls each. So I was lucky to be able to immediately buy 20 or so Sea Pen Corals and will buy more when my fish have produced further pearls.
Interested to note your comments on Spectacular Seeds. I grew a couple and decided against them, as i didnt even seem to get particularly higher value rare plants. On my other game (jjjjagzzzz) after sitting at Level 40 for months I grew about 5 Extraordinary Mystery Seeds at the same time and suddenly got another Rare Fish (yippee) (But still 2 more to collect!)
Looking at your reef, I thought I had a lot of Egg Shell Corals, but you have the most of any reef I have visited. I have still kept one of everything, coral, algae, ornamental and Special, plus zoom in combinations in case that had any bearing on the game? Good luck with finishing, I think we all need that luck!
Also I missed getting the first weekend special fish early on, so will that ever be offered again to those who missed it?

A couple of months ago, I visited a random reef and that reef ONLY had Egg Shell Corals. I thought they were crazy! But then I started thinking about it, and thought I'd give it a try. I no longer needed XP points to get to the next level, I just needed algae. I do have 50 Pink Sponge Beds so I get some coins.
I'm going to build up a reserve of 100 pearls or so too- that's a good idea. Those Treasure Chest weekends always take a lot of pearls to get that one rare fish.
I don't know if they offer another chance for special weekend rare fish. I hope they do, because I think I may have missed one of the early ones too.
I'm frantically trying to harvest algae this weekend so I can feed as many fish as I can and get pearls to buy those Sea Pen Corals. So far, I have 11 Sea Pen Corals. That pack of 600 pearls for $9.99 is pretty tempting though! (See, that's JUST what they want me to think, right!? Lol!)

Now my sea pen corals have all changed into a different plant which does NOT produce algae. What a rip off! I wouldn't have spent all those pearls on them if I'd known. Did that happen to you, too?

Eta: it looks like a blossom type plant, but apparently will still produce algae. We will see. I'm still waiting. And some still disappeared entirely!
