Receiving gifts that aren't on wish list
I seem to be getting many repetitive gifts, e.g., books, that I do NOT need. These items are not on my wish list. So, it isn't clear how or why I am receiving them instead of the items that are on my wish list. When I visit a friend I can see and only give what is on their list (or a tool). So, do my friends see a list that is inaccurate? Also, I have noticed that many of the clues, (e.g, can be found in .) are inaccurate. Anyone else see that?

I am not positive, but I think perhaps when you charge someone and after they have worked the picture with your charge, you are sent a gift. I think it is random. Sometimes people "gift" you with a gift they have which isn't on your wish list. I hope this helps.

Thanks Slo! Your answer sort of helps. It's not clear how you can send a gift that is not on a person's list (or not in your inventory). For example, when I send a gift I am unable to send an object that is not requested.
Answer from: Paj
Hi Ben, I am able to send any gift. Whether one of the std 1-a-day gifts like teapot or gears (which you dont have to have in your inventory) and ALSO one from my own collection inventory . If I have it in 'stock'. It doesn't have to be on their wish list just click on the larger pictures below. Sometimes people haven't got what you want so send something they think will be useful perhaps as a thank you. Every gift is useful.

Wow, this has been helpful! For clarificarion Paj, are you saying that a gift can be sent without it being in my inventory? Does this mean if I select a gift that has a present symbol that if I select it, the person gets the gift from me but not from my collection. If there is no present, then the gift is from my inventory. Sorry if I was redundant! My code today is 504BGA I accept all friend requests.
Answer from: Bellydancer
I have been able to send any gift from my inventory, but have received messages telling me essentially 'you don't have that to give'. There are awards given after you've given a certain number of gifts to friends (not sure about how many, maybe 50 or 100) so it's possible friends are giving all those extras in order to earn the award.
Answer from: Paj
@Slo: Thre are two types of items need for collections: the actual items you run about collecting (5 to complete every collection) these are listed under the 'choose a collection' tab in the friends gifting area and are actually the special items you, yourself, have collected. If you gift one of these then it comes from your own stock. The 'choose a gift' tab list all the items you need to combine a collection eg teapot, cake, springs, gears, Firefly, ladybug etc etc. You can give one of these each day to each friend FREE. They DO NOT come from your own stash. I hope that is a bit clearer. Sorry for burbling ;-)
Answer from: Paj
Forgot to say. In answer to Bellydancer.the collections items you MUST have in stock to be able to 'gift' them. The std gifts. First tab: gears, springs et al. You don't have to have ANY at all in stock as they are given as part of the game. NOT from your stocks. Even if you have them. So, to send non own-stock gift items to friends it costs you nothing(in all the games so far) . . Ladybugs . Fireflies. Always useful. Today's code OKAP5Z :-). ***NANU***? So I can gift back to you?
Answer from: Bellydancer
Thanks Paj. I didn't know that the non-collection items could be given without depleting my supply or even if I don't have the at all.

It also depends on what level you are at yourself. If you have reached high enough level, you can gift anything, but some are restricted until you reach say level 24 then you can give this extra item and so on! btw i wish more people would gift the fireflies and ladybirds! you cant put them on your wishlist!

@Ben: I dont know if youll see this since you posted your Q back in August but thank you for posting it! I too naver get what im asking for on my wish list! If i receive one more book, silver soldier or magic cape/hat i will scream! I need those bonze symbol things but day after day i really get one! Im wondering if when i send a specific item to a friend are they getting that item or are they too getting a book or magic cape? I always send a wish list item if i can then if not theyll get a lady or fire bug! Dont get me wrong gifting is a great part of the game but is there another way to express I NEED my wish list items PLEASE? Thanks
Answer from: Agent Solo
If a person doesn't have the gift to give (ie. a collection item), they might send you something in return that isn't on your wish list. If they're rarer or higher-level items, people may just be sending what they have in the spirit of reciprocity.
Answer from: MAF
I think that when you receive a gift that is in you wish list they say to thank them and then it's when a random item is sent.
Answer from: RainbowTb / Tb
Most people send thank gifts. They just click the button after receiving a gift and never click on your name or go to your wish list. It takes more time to go to your friends list but if you are a good friend you will do it. You click on you friends name and then you can click on an item in their wish list or you can send a gift or collection item or both. You can give 10 gifts and 50 collection items a day. If you give a gift it comes out of your inventory if you choose a collection item ex: springs, gears, b flat, carrots etc. IT DOES NOT come out of your inventory. You can even send a collection item you do not have. If everyone sent their friends a collection item everyday we would not have to buy crystals to get them. You could potentially get 50 gears or 50 springs, or 50 b flats, carrots etc (get the picture) a day if your friends helped you out. Friends help your friends.

Read Argh's Clarification About Gifts tab. Really good info on gifting!
Answer from: MrsB
The books etc (and yes they send way too many of the same) are sent randomly by the game when the person you sent a gift to presses the thank you button. You know it is a "thank you gift" if it has a picture of a wrapped present and when you accept it it does not ask you to "thank". If it is a picture of an item and asks you to "thank" then it was something actually sent by a friend. If all you get are the ones that look like wrapped presents it means your friends are what I call "takers" that take and don't give back. I don't keep those friends for long,
Answer from: Slo-carrotswant
However, I don't think there is a way to distinguish between a gift received as a "thank you" or as the result of someone playing a picture that you've "helped". If you have many friends, it may take a few days to circle through them to gift. I have over 200 friends so it takes me 4-5 days to personally gift each friend. I also don't always have the chance to play everyday. I occasionally go through and delete friends, but I find much value (albeit more challenging because of the tracking required) to have many friends. I am at a higher level so I have more energy to visit friends. Consequently, I will wait about a month before deleting. 41JE2H
