Question & Answers

Best thread for changing dates?

I finally decided to time travel but cannot locate the thread that most people cite when steering people towards directions. I found multiple sets of instructions; I know not to go forward from the current date, only back. I am not certain if I need to change from AM to PM, add a minute when moving forward, etc. Do I move back one day, forward one, back two, then forward two? I tried this once before and lost all my apps. This time, I did a full backup of my iPad Air in iTunes and the Cloud, so I am not too concerned. Many thanks in advance, Clare

We are friends Claire and I can help you: there are different ways to do it depending on what you are trying to accomplish. This will be a lot of info, but I hope it all makes sense. Your other apps will not be affected as long as you always end on the current date. I have to split these up because it is too long for one post. First for the things NOT to do. Never go forward past the current date. This is what messes up your timers. And you will lose special timers like the Christmas quest timer. Using the following method you will lose any talismans that are running so do not do it if you are not willing to sacrifice that talisman. (The Magic Crystal that runs for 6 days will be lost after you change dates 6 times or go back more than 6 days and is the most painful one to give up until you realize that every time you change dates you are working at getting another one. I now have 77 of them in my inventory so no big deal if I lose one. There are different methods depending on what you are wanting to do. If you are gifting and you reach your limit, but you want to continue... Stay in the friends section and minimize the game. Change the date BACK one day. Go back to the game and keep gifting. If you reach your limit again, minimize and go forward to the correct date, go back to game and continue. Repeat as necessary but always end on the correct date. If you are visiting friends and run out of strength but want to continue... Stay inside of the friend's visit section and minimize the game. Change the date BACK one day open the game and then minimize again. Change the date to the current date. Now when you go back to the game your strength will be restored because it thinks a day has passed. Repeat as necessary but always end on correct date.

Now for the fun one that I wish I had figured out BEFORE the match 3 challenge. (I believe it is best to turn off your wifi before doing this one. Doing this will recharge all of the things at the top of your desk, which gives you collection items, tools, strength, energy, experience, and (bugs and carrots if you have the crystal ball and or pyramid). While on the correct date. Click on one of those items at the top, like the pyramid (this is the important step). It will tell you how long till you can get it, like let's say 11 hrs. Minimize game. Change date back as far as you want (I started small with 1 week) open game and click on the same item and the timer should read the same 11 hrs. Minimize, go forward one day and open the game. Each time you go forward it will welcome you back, add a day toward your magic crystal and then all those items will be sparking. You can click on all of them or pick and choose. I do not click energy, and strength every time because it gives me way too much to use. But the one to the far left gives a collection item and they are usually good ones. If one drops that you have a quest for it now counts toward your quest and this is where I get most of the items I gift to friends. The one on the far right gives you tools and I now have over 100 of each tool. The experience points will help you level up faster and if you have the crystal ball or pyramid you will never have to worry about bugs and carrots again. I go back one month at a time now. It does take some time to do this though. Every 5 days it will do the thing where the my toma page comes up. I mention that because it freaked me out the first time, cause I thought the game was onto me. Very important...ALWAYS change your date to the correct date when you finish. I click the auto date and time when I'm done, otherwise it will affect other apps. If at any point your timers get messed up or they already are because you tried this before let me know, it is easy to fix them.

It is called " The pros and cons of changing your calendar to give more gifts". Search on the word calendar and it comes right up. I have had no problems (so far) with changing dates and I have been doing it about two months. I only go back in time and only go back two days. The couple of times I have tried going back three days I get a message from my iPad that the timing settings need updating. Going back two days gives me four rounds of gifts - today, two days ago, yesterday and today again. With 60 gifts per round (10 collectables and 50 free) I can go through my eighty friends three times. I only change the date, never the time. Once I get back to today, I open the game once before switching back to automatic date in the settings panel. I have found that I get about a two minute delay during the date changes, so if I go straight to auto-set from yesterday the game reads it as 24 hours plus two minutes and it interrupts the five day magic crystal award. I have had no problems with awards charging or anything else. Just beware that you will lose any talismans that you have running.

Anonymous is not my game name and my good friends should be able to tell who this is, but I am feeling a little paranoid so please do not say here if you know my game name.

One change for me since the Valentine update. I used to have my Game icon within a folder and was able to time travel succefully as described above. After the Valentine update I had to move the Game icon out of the folder in order to recharge the items at the top of the desk. Also, since the update whenever I minimize the game for any reason I get kicked out all the way to the G5 logo.

I think the original thread where MrsB first described her method (that most people here use and quote) wasn't called anything to do with date changing - the topic just came up somewhere in the answers and someone asked her for instructions - and there was some trouble shooting questions then afterwards. I can't remember which thread it was, must have been about gifting or friends though.

New discovery thanks to Anonymous. If I turn off the WiFi, I get completely kicked out only every 4th or 5th time instead of every time I minimize. It also seems to work better using the claw method to minimize rather than the double click, but I haven't tested it enough to be sure.

@" Anonymous" - I understand your reluctance to post your name. Yes, I know who you are, and many thanks for your instructions. They are extremely helpful! Thanks for taking the time to write such a long post. I am saving this page. One poster not mentioned here was insistent that one needed to quit the game by turning off the device and rebooting, followed by a date reset. Thanks for clearing that up; I only need to minimise the game. I only started playing this game in late November, so I missed out on the Halloween crystal orb. I never installed the Christmas update, as I was a bit concerned about its stability. Apparently the 2nd update was less stable than its predecessor, so I never downloaded that one. I completed the Valentine's quest, but that is it. I assume that the last part of your post does not entirely apply to me, as I never completed those challenges. However, I do have the usual set of desktop icons. I should turn on Airplane Mode, go back in time as you described, and click on each of those 6 icons? Thanks again; you have been very helpful! Clare

@NatashaM, @Argh: I used incorrect search terms, with every permutation of "changing dates" and "gifting" that seemed logical. No wonder I could not locate MrsB's thread. The two minute delay that you mentioned with auto-set in Time and Date settings was addressed by several players. One devised a solution; she adds one minute when she returns to the correct date, but I don't want to mess with the time. I was unaware that you finished your current round of gifting before going back in time. Makes sense, but I was thinking about algorithms used in mathematical applications, which was complicating the issue. Thanks for your input as well; I appreciate your help.

Argh: I think MrsB would probably recommend using the above instructions rather than searching for her posting on the subject, because there are slight modifications after the update and due to trial and error.

@LoisH - Thanks for the tip about the game icon. I also keep my games in a folder but will move them out before I attempt any time travel. I don't use a tablet holder, so your method of minimising the game would not work for me (assuming we are talking about the same thing). I simply hit the home screen to minimise the game and switch apps. Not what you would recommend? Thanks, Clare

Posted: Feb 26, 2014, 4:22 AM

Answer from: MrsB
Clare: either way of minimizing works, but I find clawing at the screen (IPAD calls it pinching the screen) with four or five fingers is easier and faster and has nothing to do with a holder, it is just a function of the IPAD. If using this method make sure the icons for the game and settings are situated next to each other or at least on the same page to make it faster. If using the double click method, make sure all aps are closed except for the game and settings to quicker results. This is purely a personal preference. Try it both ways ans see which one works best for you.

Answer from: MrsB
Clare: even if you do not have the pyramid or sphere the last half is still helpful to you, to get collection items, tools, strength and experience. The only thing you will not get are the bugs, carrots etc. The two minute delay that you mention is only an issue for people who change the time rather than the date. For example If you are moving forward 12 hrs at a time to charge a specific award there is a 2 minute delay. I never had the patience for this even with the fix that you mentioned. For me it is much faster to just change the date. It is less irritating and has the same result. Again personal preference.

I've been resetting dates for months and have learned a few new things from this thread, so thank you to Clare for asking and to Anonymous for the brilliantly detailed answer.

Anonymous: The original question was 'best thread for changing dates' and I was simply explaining the most detailed thread already in existence is hard to find in search as the discussion happened in answer to an unrelated question, giving credit to the poster who gave the instructions in that thread. I did not say take that advice over any posted here nor did I make any assertions about the quality of advice given anywhere on this board.

I am still considering whether or not to time travel as I have already crashed once and lost everything ( not from date changing though) and it was so painful. Most of you are IPad users? I know you can also do it on Android devices but would like to hear feedback from those who are doing it successfully without repercussion. Call me paranoid

Argh: my good Friend, your integrity is always appreciated and I am SURE " anonymous" was not questioning your intentions. Thank you for trying to give me the credit but since I posted that I have been warned about giving my game name I case g5 is monitoring the site. I guess my idea kind of backfired on me.

Answer from: MrsB
Cr91958: don't feel pressured to do this. It isn't for everyone. When I first started I only went back one day and forward one day until I was comfortable with it. If you join the Zecret Zociety Facebook group there is a video posted there from an android user that shows how she does it.

Answer from: GameReset
Cr91958: I have recently started doing it on my android nexus phone to get more energy as it keeps running out before I can visit everyone. It is quite simple to do. If you wish to charge and harvest items on your desktop again and again then make sure all the items on your desk are fully charged before you go back in time. Otherwise their clock resets to like 48 hrs remaining till they charge if you went back 2 days. Tip: if you have already harvested the desk icons but wish to do more harvesting then go forward only the hours needed to charge them. After that go back to the game. Do not do anything at this point and reminimise the game. Next go back to the clock and set it back as far as you like and follow the steps given in the above posts. Always end on the current date. The only thing affected going forward a few hours will be your Invite tab clock. So if you moved forward 12 hours it would reshuffle your invite friends list after 12 hours. You can always reset this with 4 crystals or just wait 12 hours. Hope I was not too confusing.

Answer from: MrsB
@Cr91958 and @game reset: it may be different for the android, but it don't think so. If you click on an awards icon BEFORE you go back in time the timer should read the same as it did on the current date. Then each day you move forward the awards will be recharged. Try it and let me know. If you do not click on the award icon first and go back it will do like you said and read 48 hrs for the two days that you went back and the only thing that will recharge moving forward is the energy. That is true even for IPAD. I cannot stress enough that it is unwise to go forward beyond the current time and date.

Answer from: GameReset
MrsB: awesome! It did what you said, clicking on icon before going back resolved it on android. Going fwd: agreed - avoid if you can especially if you are new to time travel. However, the glitch that reset the game due to this has been resolved. I have done it numerous times. It just messes with the invite tab which can be fixed easily by just waiting it out or using crystals. Thanks again MrsB your tip just saved me the headache of moving fwd. :)

I am glad to hear it worked. I changed dates for months to recharge energy before I accidentally clicked on an icon first and discovered this trick.

I read this thread last night, tried the icon, minimise, time travel thing and i have to say it felt like Christmas when it worked. On the down side I seem to be getting a shed load of fireflies via this method and, trust me, fireflies are the one thing I definitely don't need LOL. But what really made it worthwhile was that the icon that randomly drops collection items dropped an inordinately high amount of quest items that I had been searching for so long I had practically given up on them. A whole batch of old quests have now completed. Yay!

Note to self, don't send Mac any Fireflies LOL.

Answer from: Eupraxia
@Anonymous, @MrsB: I only went back one day and had no difficulties trouble at all. The only glitch occurred when I moved forward to the current date. I received a message that read something along the lines of the following: "iMail is not working because your time and date settings are incorrect". I changed the date forward to the current time using auto-set, and everything seems fine. Thanks so much for your help, and I will test the second part of the instructions later this afternoon.

@MrsB- There is such a device as an iPad claw, but I don't use one. When I think of "clawing", I think of my Xbox controller or an iffy method of teaching kids how to multiply polynomials. Thanks for letting me know about the pinching, but my games are nowhere near my settings. They are many pages removed, so I will stick to what I know. Thanks again to both of you; you were incredibly helpful! Signing off as Eupraxia but not my game name, which I am changing.

Posted: Feb 27, 2014, 13:47 PM

Answer from: MrsB
Eupraxia/Clare: I use the word claw because it is like a cat clawing at something, but I am weird that way so when I saw that IPAD called it pinching I figured I better use their terminology. It definitely does not work if your icons are pages away from each other, that is why I mentioned that you need to move them next to each other if you want to use that method. That is the way I started doing it, so it is faster for me than double clicking, but I know others say it is faster to double click. Definatly personal preference.
