How do you collect gifts?

I finally figured out how to make friends. i had several friends offer me gifts today. i accepted, but don't know where they went? where do i find the gifts and how do i place them on my island? i don't have a facebook account.

You go in the little present sign then on top it says gift store and you click on that for your presents
