It depends, if ur attacking : bersker, guardian and ballistas
if ur defending : sentry, lancers , guardians and rams

Set your cities up as attack or defense attack cities choose early i attack with 3-5 k knights and as many zerks as you can put in but if itds early on always use gaurds they are more multi purpose and one to one a gaurdian will kill a gaurdian it sucks hitting a wall of gaurdians trust me hit 35k in one attack crippled forces if it were knights there i would of destroyed them so build gaurds and zerkers most deadly combo by far

An all zerk city has the most atk power but terrible defense...a 2k zerk and 4+k guard city is my typical preference since guards offer good defence and the above combo is the best zerk/guard combo in terms of numbers...statistically better than any other zerk/guard combo. these days i've been launching fast atks with great results so most of my cities are all guards...i keep mostly 30-36k point cities so i can recruit 5+k guards....deadly, fast combo!

You should probably set up different cities for different purposes. zerks would be weaker against sentries or guardians, but stronger against lancers and knights. the effectiveness of your attack force depends on what kind of troops are defending your target.
