How do i get to the void?

I have seen on some people's worlds they have the void which is a never ending fall. how do they do it?

1) place 2 columns of any 10 blocks diagonal to each other
2) equip any corner block
3) jump and place the corner blocks where the two columns meet and keep doing this until you fall through
