Buying units "Decreases" my stats?!

I must be missing something because depending on which units I buy, sometimes my stats actually go down! I'm a level 64 with about 12k Attack and Defend. I just bought a dozen Super Hornets (went from 25 to 37) and the result was a decrease in both attack and defend. What am I missing? How do I figure out which units to spend my money and valor on? I'm sick of wasting my resources! Thanks for your help.

Attack & Defense stats are tied to the Number of allies as well as the number of the attack & defense of the units. Remember each ally can use up to 4 units. It looks like as you were buying extra units your allies number decreased, someone had dropped you from their list of allies. For each ally that you lost you also lost 4 units of defense and offense. It looks like you lost about 4 allies or more so you lost a total of 16 units. You bought 12 units so your stats had shown a decrease of 4 units.

My number of allies has only increased. I've been watching that closely. Lets say I have 150 allies and attack and defense are both around 1300. I go and buy some more super hornets. The first 5 I buy push my stats up (total of 50 S Hornets) but the next 5 start to decrease my stats! By the time I've bought 15, my stats are back where they were before I bought any!? And I still have the same 150 allies.

There must be some rule of diminishing returns after you reach a certain quantity of a particular unit?

This is because of fighting. It's not the super hornets. It's the units lost in fights u do to get the 2000 needed to buy your super hornets..

The ally number and the units lost are all good things to keep in mind. However, there is another reason why the issue may exist. Sometimes, buying a unit that is "lower" in value to some other one is actually preferably because of: 1) Country boost for certain type of units, 2) Boost buildings for each type and what level they are currently leveled to. For example, even though the ground ambulance has 18 defense, the sea scout only has 17. However, everything being equal, the boost since I'm UK is actually that the Sea scout has as much defense. As for buying 5 your stats go up, and 5 more your stats go down. Assuming your not losing those units, the composition of your army of units matters. Even if a unit WITH bonus is more than another unit....the unit with the highest unboosted value is used. For example, with boost a naval unit is more than an air unit the harrier....however, the way the code is written, the harrier would be used. This can affect your overall A/D rating.....
