A long journey isn't working!
I'm on the long awaited journey quest and it says I need to go on a voyage and get pearls for when she wakes up but it won't work!

You might not be using the right ship. Read the quest carefully and check the boats list. I couldn't get a mission and found I needed to build captn John Merchantmens ship. Hope that helps.
