When you are in daytime go to the inn and rest dont quit it if it is dark you can now find the thief

I did try that, but it doesn't work, i went to the thief for the quest and then i went to inn i talk to women pay 50 gold and talk to her again to go to sleep, but it doesn't work, then i did the same but when i payd her i didnt speak to her for sleep but what i did i went to bed and that doesn't work. Help me!
