In sniper elite v2 how do you stop the execution?

If you are talking about the execution of the guy with the glass, where the enemy is holding a pistol with two other soldiers...then... as soon as the check point loads quickly aim for the guy who is executing and snipe him then kill the other soldiers....then you will have to focus on the guy you saved and cover him until he gets to you.....then you be facing a hold off...
